Chapter 14 - The Father Who Never Died

Emma watched the video three times.

She hoped she misunderstood.

She hoped there was another explanation.

There was not.

Her father was alive.

The man she buried.

The man she cried for.

The man she believed she lost forever.

Alive.

Victoria arrived moments later.

Emma did not wait.

“My father is alive.”

Victoria stopped.

The color disappeared from her face.

“Where did you find that?”

Emma held up the memory card.

“My mother.”

Victoria whispered:

“Evelyn.”

Emma stepped closer.

“You knew.”

Victoria looked away.

“You knew my father was alive.”

Silence.

That was the answer.

Emma felt something break.

Again.

“How long?”

Victoria finally spoke.

“Ten years.”

Emma stared.

“Ten years?”

“I thought he was dead.”

“But you found out.”

“Yes.”

“And you never told me.”

Victoria looked destroyed.

“I was trying to protect you.”

Emma shook her head.

“Everyone says that.”

Her voice cracked.

“Everyone says they are protecting me.”

“But all they do is hide my life from me.”

Victoria had no defense.

---

A private helicopter landed outside the estate.

Daniel entered quickly.

“We have a problem.”

Emma turned.

“What?”

“Andrew knows.”

Her heart dropped.

“How?”

Daniel handed her a tablet.

On the screen was a live news broadcast.

Andrew Weston was standing in front of reporters.

“My wife has been manipulated by people who want control of her family’s assets.”

Emma stared.

“He’s going public.”

“Yes.”

The reporter asked Andrew:

“Are you saying Emma Weston is being controlled?”

Andrew looked directly into the cameras.

“I believe my wife has been surrounded by people who are using her.”

Emma’s face hardened.

He was doing it again.

Changing the story.

Making himself the victim.

But this time…

Emma was ready.

---

Andrew returned to his office after the interview.

His assistant was waiting.

“You did it.”

Andrew looked exhausted.

“No.”

“What?”

“I bought time.”

The assistant frowned.

“Against who?”

Andrew looked out the window.

“Everyone.”

Because now he knew.

His father had lied.

His family had lied.

His marriage had started with deception.

But there was one thing Andrew still needed.

Proof.

Proof that could destroy Emma.

The door opened.

Lila entered.

Andrew immediately became cold.

“What do you want?”

She looked nervous.

“I found something.”

He stared.

“What?”

“A file.”

“What file?”

Lila placed it on the desk.

“The original Carter records.”

Andrew opened it.

Inside was a DNA report.

His eyes moved across the page.

Then stopped.

Because the result showed something impossible.

Emma Carter was not the only person connected to the Carter bloodline.

Someone else existed.

Someone who could control everything.

Someone Andrew knew.

---

That night, Emma received a message.

From her father.

Not a recording.

Not a letter.

A live location.

One sentence.

Come alone if you want the truth.

Emma stared at the coordinates.

Victoria immediately said:

“No.”

Emma looked at her.

“I have to go.”

“It could be a trap.”

Emma nodded.

“I know.”

“Then why?”

Emma looked down at the necklace.

“Because I spent my entire life waiting for answers.”

She grabbed her coat.

“I’m done waiting.”

---

The location was an abandoned farmhouse outside Pennsylvania.

Emma entered alone.

The door creaked open.

Inside was darkness.

Then a voice.

“Emma.”

She froze.

Because she knew that voice.

A voice from childhood memories.

A voice she thought she would never hear again.

“Dad?”

A man stepped forward.

Older.

Tired.

But alive.

Richard Carter.

Her father.

Emma covered her mouth.

She could not speak.

He whispered:

“I’m sorry.”

And then he said the words that changed everything.

“The man you married…”

He looked at her with tears in his eyes.

“He was chosen for you before you ever met him.”

Emma froze.

“What?”

Her father continued.

May you like

“Andrew Weston was never a coincidence.”
