Chapter 11 - The Man Who Betrayed Everyone

Emma returned to New York one month later.
But she was not the same woman who left.
The city expected a broken wife.
A desperate woman.
Someone begging for forgiveness.
Instead, Emma walked into Carter Foundation headquarters wearing a simple black suit.
No jewelry.
No designer dress.
No attempt to impress anyone.
She did not need to.
The building belonged to her.
The company belonged to her.
The empire belonged to her.
And for the first time…
The world knew it.
Reporters surrounded the entrance.
“Mrs. Weston!”
“Are you taking control of Carter Foundation?”
“Are you planning revenge against Andrew Weston?”
Emma stopped.
She looked at the cameras.
“I am not here for revenge.”
The reporters waited.
“I am here for justice.”
The sentence became the headline everywhere.
---
Inside the building, Emma met the executives who had protected her family’s legacy.
Many of them were older.
People who had known her parents.
One woman approached.
Her name was Sophia Reed.
She had worked with Emma’s mother.
“When I saw you walk through those doors…”
Sophia smiled sadly.
“I thought I was seeing your mother again.”
Emma felt emotional.
“My mother?”
“Yes.”
Sophia handed her a small box.
“She left this for you.”
Emma opened it.
Inside was a necklace.
A simple silver necklace.
With a hidden symbol.
The Carter family symbol.
There was also a note.
Power does not make you strong. Truth does.
Emma held the necklace tightly.
For the first time in months…
She felt connected to the family she lost.
---
Across town…
Andrew watched the news.
Emma’s return.
The Carter Foundation.
The interviews.
The confidence.
Everything.
His assistant entered.
“Mr. Weston.”
“What?”
“The board wants another meeting.”
Andrew laughed.
“They’re afraid.”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
The assistant hesitated.
“There is something else.”
Andrew looked up.
“What?”
“The police received new evidence regarding your father.”
Andrew froze.
“What evidence?”
“A financial archive.”
“From where?”
The assistant swallowed.
“The Carter Foundation.”
Andrew stood.
Because he understood.
Emma was not just fighting him.
She was exposing his entire family.
---
That evening, Andrew went to Emma’s office.
Security immediately stopped him.
“I’m here to see my wife.”
Emma appeared behind the glass doors.
“Let him in.”
Everyone looked surprised.
Andrew entered.
For a moment, they simply stared at each other.
The woman he underestimated.
The man who thought she would always forgive.
Finally, Andrew spoke.
“You’re destroying my family.”
Emma remained calm.
“No.”
She looked at him.
“I’m uncovering what your family did.”
Andrew stepped closer.
“You think you know everything.”
“I know enough.”
“No.”
His voice became lower.
“You don’t know what your grandfather did.”
Emma froze.
“What?”
Andrew smiled slightly.
Because he knew he had found a weakness.
“Ask Victoria.”
Emma’s expression changed.
Andrew noticed.
“You still trust her?”
A pause.
“She saved my life.”
Andrew shook his head.
“Or maybe she ruined it.”
Emma stared at him.
“What are you talking about?”
Andrew walked toward the door.
Then stopped.
“Your grandfather wasn’t only investigating my father.”
He turned.
“He was investigating Victoria Hale.”
Emma felt a cold wave pass through her.
Because once again…
Andrew had left her with a question.
May you like
And the answer could destroy the only person she thought was protecting her.
