Chapter 1 - The Flight Nobody Knew About

The rain was falling harder when Emma Weston stepped into the black luxury car waiting outside the Manhattan Grand Hotel.
She did not look back.
Not once.
Behind those glass doors was the man who had destroyed ten years of her life in less than ten seconds.
Andrew Weston.
Her husband.
The man who once promised he would never let her cry.
The same man who had just kissed another woman in front of hundreds of people.
The driver glanced at her through the mirror.
“Mrs. Weston, are you sure about the destination?”
Emma looked down at the message on her phone.
Private terminal.
Gate 4.
Everything has been prepared.
She still did not know who sent it.
She still did not know where she was going.
But for the first time in years, she trusted her own instincts.
“Yes.”
“Take me there.”
The driver nodded.
The car moved through the wet streets of Manhattan.
Emma rested her hand over her stomach.
The baby moved slightly.
A small kick.
A reminder.
She was not running away.
She was protecting something.
Someone.
Her child.
For months, Emma had wondered what she had done wrong.
Was she not beautiful enough?
Was she too quiet?
Was she too focused on creating a home instead of building a public image?
Was she not exciting enough for a man who lived surrounded by power?
She had blamed herself.
Every single day.
But tonight changed everything.
Because Andrew did not accidentally hurt her.
He chose to hurt her.
He chose the cameras.
He chose the humiliation.
And that was something Emma would never forgive.
The car stopped twenty minutes later.
Emma looked outside.
She expected a small private airport entrance.
Instead, she saw a restricted terminal surrounded by security.
A man in a dark suit immediately walked toward the vehicle.
“Mrs. Weston?”
Emma hesitated.
“Yes.”
The man opened the door.
“My name is Daniel Cross.”
He handed her a small envelope.
“Your flight is ready.”
Emma did not move.
“Who sent you?”
Daniel looked uncomfortable.
“I was instructed not to reveal that information until you were on board.”
Emma’s eyes narrowed.
“That sounds suspicious.”
“It would.”
Daniel paused.
“But after what happened tonight, I believe you understand why certain people prefer to remain invisible.”
Emma stared at him.
She hated secrets.
She had lived inside too many of them.
“Where is the plane going?”
Daniel looked at the documents in his hand.
“Europe first.”
Emma froze.
“Europe?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Daniel looked at her carefully.
“Because someone believes you and your baby are not safe in New York anymore.”
The words hit harder than she expected.
Not safe.
Emma looked around.
The quiet terminal.
The security guards.
The private entrance.
This was not a simple escape.
Someone had planned this.
Someone had been watching.
“Who thinks I’m in danger?”
Daniel remained silent.
Emma stepped closer.
“Answer me.”
Daniel lowered his voice.
“Someone who knows Andrew Weston better than you think.”
Emma’s heart tightened.
“What does that mean?”
Before Daniel could answer, her phone suddenly rang.
The screen showed one name.
Andrew.
For several seconds, Emma simply stared.
Then she answered.
“Emma.”
His voice sounded calm.
Too calm.
“You left.”
She looked toward the airplane waiting behind the glass.
“Yes.”
A pause.
“You embarrassed me tonight.”
Emma almost laughed.
“I embarrassed you?”
“Don’t make this dramatic.”
Her fingers tightened around the phone.
“You kissed another woman in front of me.”
“Lila means nothing.”
Emma closed her eyes.
Those words.
The oldest lie in the world.
“If she means nothing, why did you let the whole city watch?”
Andrew sighed.
“You are emotional because of the pregnancy.”
The sentence cut deeper than the kiss.
Emma looked at the floor.
There it was.
The excuse.
The way he always made her feelings become the problem.
“You really believe that?”
“I think you need to calm down and come home.”
Emma looked at the private jet.
Then she looked at the envelope in her hand.
“No.”
Silence.
Andrew’s voice changed.
“What did you say?”
“I said no.”
“Emma.”
“No more.”
Her voice was quiet.
But stronger than she expected.
“I spent two years begging you to notice me.”
“I spent two years defending you.”
“I spent two years pretending your betrayal was something I could survive.”
A long silence followed.
Then Andrew spoke.
“You’re my wife.”
Emma looked out at the dark runway.
“Not anymore.”
The line went silent.
For the first time, Andrew had no answer.
Emma ended the call.
Her hands were shaking.
But she felt something she had forgotten existed.
Freedom.
She stepped onto the plane.
Inside was not just luxury.
It was history.
Old photographs.
Documents.
A leather folder with her name written on it.
Emma opened it.
The first page made her blood run cold.
It was a legal document.
A trust agreement.
With her signature.
From before she married Andrew.
She turned the page.
And froze.
Because the account value listed inside was not thousands.
Not millions.
Billions.
Emma stopped breathing.
She had spent ten years believing she was an ordinary woman who married into wealth.
But someone had been hiding the truth from her.
May you like
A truth Andrew Weston never knew.
