Chapter 5 - THE TRUTH BEHIND THE INHERITANCE
Alexander returned home that night quieter than usual.
Emily noticed immediately.
She had learned every small change in him.
The way he walked.
The way he looked at things.
The silence before he spoke.
Something was wrong.
“What did she show you?”
Alexander stood near the window.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then he answered.
“Documents about my father.”
Emily slowly approached.
“And?”
“He changed the inheritance agreement shortly before his death.”
She waited.
“What did he change?”
Alexander looked at the papers in his hand.
“He created a private trust.”
Emily frowned.
“Why?”
“According to these documents, the person who controlled the company was not supposed to inherit everything.”
A silence filled the room.
“Then who was?”
Alexander looked at her.
“My father’s firstborn child.”
Emily froze.
“But that is you.”
Alexander shook his head.
“No.”
The answer came quietly.
Too quietly.
“There was another child.”
Emily stared at him.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
The entire Sterling family history suddenly felt different.
“Alexander…”
“My father had another child before he married my mother.”
Emily covered her mouth.
“Did you know?”
“No.”
His voice carried pain.
“I spent my entire life believing I understood my family.”
He looked at the documents.
“But apparently, I knew nothing.”

Not publicly yet.
Only among powerful people.
Executives.
Lawyers.
Family allies.
She knew rumors moved faster than official announcements.
And soon, everyone would question Alexander's position.
That was her plan.

The next morning, Alexander requested a meeting with Daniel Hayes.
His attorney arrived with additional files.
“You found something?”
Alexander asked.
Daniel looked uncomfortable.
“Yes.”
That answer immediately worried him.
“What is it?”
Daniel opened another folder.
“Your father did have another child.”
Alexander remained silent.
“But there is more.”
Daniel placed a photograph on the desk.
A young woman.
Alexander picked it up.
“Who is she?”
“Her name is Clara Morgan.”
Emily looked at the picture.
“She looks familiar.”
Daniel nodded.
“She should.”
Alexander stared at him.
“Why?”
Daniel took a breath.
“Because she has been working inside Sterling Industries for three years.”
The room became completely silent.
Alexander looked shocked.
“She has been here?”
“Yes.”
“Under what position?”
Daniel hesitated.
“Your personal assistant.”
