Chapter 4 - THE SECRET BURIED IN THE PAST

The Sterling family had survived wars.
Financial collapses.
Corporate attacks.
Public scandals.
But none of those battles had ever threatened the foundation of the empire like the secret Victoria was about to reveal.
For twenty years, she had carried the truth alone.
Not because she felt guilty.
Because she was waiting for the perfect moment.
And now that moment had arrived.
Inside her private apartment, Victoria opened the old wooden box hidden beneath a false compartment in her closet.
Inside were documents.
Old photographs.
A handwritten letter.
And one name that still had the power to change everything.
Richard Sterling.
Their father.
The man who created the Sterling empire.
The man whose decisions shaped every member of the family.
Victoria picked up the letter.
She remembered the day she found it.
The day she discovered that her father had been hiding something from everyone.
Especially Alexander.
Her brother had always believed he inherited the company because their father trusted him.
Because he was the strongest.
The smartest.
The most capable.
But Victoria knew the truth.
There was another reason.
A reason Alexander had never discovered.
And if the world learned about it, his perfect image would collapse.
Victoria smiled.
For the first time in days, she felt powerful again.
“Let's see how loyal your wife stays,” she whispered.
---
Meanwhile, Alexander and Emily were trying to rebuild their lives.
The attack had changed something between them.
Not their love.
But their understanding of how fragile their world could be.
Emily sat across from Alexander in the mansion garden.
The morning sunlight reflected across the peaceful landscape.
“I never wanted this.”
Alexander looked at her.
“What?”
“To be the reason you fight your family.”
He placed his coffee down.
“You are not the reason.”
Emily looked confused.
“Then what is?”
Alexander stared toward the mansion.
“The truth.”
For years, Alexander had ignored family conflicts.
He believed time would fix everything.
He believed success would make people respect boundaries.
But he had been wrong.
Some people did not want peace.
They wanted control.
“I spent my whole life protecting the Sterling name,” Alexander continued.
“But I forgot something important.”
“What?”
“That a name means nothing if the people carrying it have no honor.”
Emily reached across the table and held his hand.
“You are still worried about her.”
Alexander didn't answer immediately.
Because she was right.
Victoria was dangerous.
Not because she was powerful.
Because she knew where all the family secrets were buried.
---
That afternoon, Alexander received an unexpected message.
A meeting request.
No name.
No explanation.
Only one sentence.
“You deserve to know what your father hid from you.”
Alexander stared at the screen.
His expression changed.
Emily noticed immediately.
“What happened?”
He showed her the message.
Her face became serious.
“Do you know who sent it?”
“No.”
“But you have an idea.”
Alexander looked away.
“Yes.”
Victoria.
---
The meeting location was an old private club owned by the Sterling family decades ago.
Alexander arrived alone.
The room was empty.
Except for one person.
Victoria.
She sat at the table holding a folder.
“I knew you would come.”
Alexander remained standing.
“What do you want?”
She smiled.
“Not what I want.”
“What you deserve to know.”
She pushed the folder across the table.
Alexander opened it.
His eyes moved across the documents.
Slowly.
Then stopped.
His expression changed.
“What is this?”
Victoria leaned back.
“The truth about why father chose you.”
Alexander looked at her.
“I know why he chose me.”
“No.”
Her voice became colder.
“You only know the story he wanted you to believe.”
Alexander turned another page.
His hands tightened.
For the first time in years...
Victoria saw uncertainty in his eyes.
And she knew.
May you like
She had finally found a weakness.
