Chapter 2 - THE DOCUMENT THAT ENDED EVERYTHING

The Sterling mansion had never felt so quiet.

The employees avoided looking directly at anyone.

The guests who had witnessed the confrontation slowly left.

Nobody wanted to be involved.

Nobody wanted to become the next target of Alexander Sterling's anger.

But everyone knew something important had happened.

The balance of power inside the Sterling family had changed.

Alexander sat in his private office with Emily beside him.

The room overlooked the entire city.

Normally, it was where he made billion-dollar decisions.

Tonight, it was where he made a personal one.

Emily stared out the window.

“She is your sister.”

Alexander remained silent.

“Yes.”

“You built this empire with her.”

“Yes.”

Emily looked at him.

“Are you sure?”

Alexander turned toward her.

For years, people had seen him as cold.

Unemotional.

Impossible to hurt.

But Emily knew the truth.

He felt everything.

He just never showed it.

“She destroyed things that cannot be replaced.”

Emily lowered her eyes.

“I know they were just objects.”

“They weren't objects.”

Alexander interrupted.

“They were pieces of your life.”

Emily looked away.

A tear slowly rolled down her cheek.

Victoria had not just broken old photographs.

She had attacked Emily's memories.

Her connection to the people she had lost.

The things that reminded her she had a family before becoming a Sterling.

Alexander reached for her hand.

“She wanted you to feel like you didn't belong.”

Emily whispered.

“Maybe she succeeded.”

Alexander's expression hardened.

“No.”

“You belong here because I chose you.”

A knock interrupted them.

His attorney, Daniel Hayes, entered.

The older man carried a black folder.

“Mr. Sterling.”

Alexander nodded.

“Show her.”

Daniel placed the folder on the desk.

Emily looked confused.

“What is that?”

Alexander opened it.

Inside were legal documents.

Trust agreements.

Inheritance modifications.

Corporate ownership papers.

Emily looked at him.

“When did you do this?”

“Six months ago.”

“Why?”

Alexander looked toward the city.

“Because I realized some people confuse family with loyalty.”

Daniel continued.

“The documents establish independent protections for Mrs. Sterling.”

Emily slowly understood.

“You were already preparing this?”

Alexander nodded.

“I knew eventually someone would try to use the family name against you.”

Emily looked shocked.

“But Victoria doesn't know.”

“No.”

Alexander closed the folder.

“And she won't like what happens next.”

---

The next morning, Victoria arrived at Sterling headquarters believing she could fix everything.

She walked through the massive lobby like she still owned the place.

Employees lowered their eyes.

Assistants stopped talking.

Everyone had heard about the mansion.

Victoria entered the executive floor.

“Tell Alexander I am here.”

The assistant hesitated.

“Mrs. Sterling, Mr. Sterling requested that you wait.”

Victoria frowned.

“Requested?”

The assistant handed her an envelope.

Victoria opened it.

Her smile slowly disappeared.

Inside was a formal notice.

A temporary suspension from all family trust privileges.

A review of her inheritance rights.

And a legal investigation into the destruction of property inside the Sterling residence.

“This is impossible.”

The assistant said nothing.

Victoria's hands began shaking.

Alexander had not yelled.

He had not threatened.

He had done something worse.

He had used the law.

The elevator doors opened.

Alexander stepped out.

Victoria immediately approached him.

“You are really doing this?”

He looked at her.

“You left me no choice.”

“She is not even family!”

The entire hallway went silent.

Alexander stared at her.

“She is my wife.”

Victoria swallowed.

“You would destroy your own sister for her?”

Alexander's voice remained calm.

“I would protect my wife from anyone.”

“Even you.”

Those words hurt more than any punishment.

Because Victoria finally realized.

She was not fighting Emily anymore.

She was fighting the man who had built an empire from nothing.

May you like

And he had decided she was the threat.
