Chapter 5 - The Woman Behind The Mask

Ethan arrived at the law office before sunrise.
He needed answers.
Not excuses.
Not lies.
Answers.
The lawyer placed a document on the table.
“This was submitted yesterday.”
Ethan picked it up.
His eyes moved across the page.
It was a temporary custody request.
Against him.
His own wife was trying to take his son away.
“Why?”
The lawyer looked uncomfortable.
“According to the statement…”
“She claims you are unstable.”
Ethan almost laughed.
“Unstable?”
“She says you have anger issues.”
“She says you are dangerous around Leo.”
Ethan stared at the document.
Then he noticed something.
A signature.
But not Victoria’s.
Someone else approved it.
“Who helped her?”
The lawyer hesitated.
“Her father.”
Ethan closed his eyes.
Everything started making sense.
Victoria was not acting alone.
Her parents had been protecting her.
Covering for her.
Helping her.
When Ethan returned home…
Victoria was waiting.
She wore a calm expression.
Like she had already won.
“You went to the lawyer.”
Ethan stopped.
“How did you know?”
She smiled.
“Because you always do what I expect.”
Ethan stared at her.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“Not anymore.”
Victoria stepped closer.
“You really think a few tears from a maid will destroy me?”
Ethan’s voice became cold.
“No.”
“I think your own actions will.”
Victoria laughed.
“You have no proof.”
Ethan looked toward the staircase.
Where Leo was sleeping.
Then back at her.
“You’re right.”
“I don’t have everything yet.”
Victoria smiled.
“Exactly.”
Ethan walked past her.
Then stopped.
“But I will.”
That night…
While Victoria believed she was safe…
Ethan activated something she never knew existed.
A private investigation.
And the first discovery arrived at 2:13 a.m.
A hidden bank account.
A secret apartment.

And a name Victoria had never mentioned before.
Leo’s real father.
