Chapter 14 - THE FINAL CHASE
Michael disappeared into the cemetery.
Rain started falling.
David ran after him.
Not because of anger.
Because he knew Michael was dangerous.
“Michael!”
No answer.
The old graves disappeared into the darkness.
Then David saw him.
Standing near the shed.
The same place where everything started.
Michael turned around.
“You should have let it go.”
David walked closer.
“You ruined innocent people’s lives.”
Michael laughed.
“Innocent?”
“You manipulated everyone.”
Michael looked toward the hidden room.
“I spent years building something.”
“You built a lie.”
Michael’s expression changed.
“You think people want the truth?”
David stared.
“Yes.”
“No.”
Michael shook his head.
“People want a story they can survive.”
David stepped forward.
“And what about Blair?”
Michael looked away.
For a moment…
he almost looked human.
Then it disappeared.
“I never wanted her hurt.”
David answered:
“But you hurt her anyway.”
Police surrounded the area.
Michael looked around.
He knew there was nowhere to run.
The officer raised his voice.
“Michael Grant, you are under arrest.”
Michael slowly lifted his hands.
But before they took him away…
he looked at Blair.
“I’m sorry.”
Everyone was surprised.
Even David.
Because it sounded real.
But Blair didn’t move.
She simply held Emily’s hand.
Then she walked to her father.
The man who raised her.
And hugged him.
“Daddy.”
David held her tightly.
“I’m here.”
For the first time in weeks…
he felt like she was safe.
