Chapter 12 - THE MOTHER WHO NEVER GAVE UP

Emily Carter arrived at Rosewood Memorial just before midnight.

David watched her step out of a taxi.

She looked exhausted.

Like someone who had spent years carrying a pain nobody understood.

When she saw Blair…

she stopped.

Blair looked at her.

Confused.

“Who are you?”

Emily covered her mouth.

Tears filled her eyes.

“I’m sorry.”

David stood between them.

“Who are you?”

Emily looked at him.

Then at Blair.

“My name is Emily Carter.”

Her voice broke.

“I’m Blair’s mother.”

Blair looked at David.

“Daddy?”

David didn’t know what to say.

Because in that moment…

he saw two people who loved the same child.

One who raised her.

One who lost her.

Emily slowly knelt.

“I never wanted to leave you.”

Blair stepped back.

“I don’t understand.”

Emily cried.

“I know.”

She looked at David.

“Michael told everyone I was dangerous.”

David’s eyes narrowed.

“Why?”

“Because I found out about the inheritance.”

Emily explained everything.

Years ago, Blair’s grandfather created a trust.

A trust only Blair could access.

But Michael wanted control of it.

So he created a plan.

He convinced people Emily was unstable.

He changed records.

He separated Blair from her real mother.

And he made sure nobody looked too closely.

David looked at Michael.

“You destroyed a family.”

Michael shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at Blair.

“I protected the money.”

David stepped forward.

“You ruined a child’s life.”

Michael’s face hardened.

“You don’t understand.”

“What?”

Michael looked at Blair.

“She was never supposed to survive.”

Everyone froze.

David’s voice became dangerous.

“What did you say?”

Michael realized his mistake.

Too late.

Because everyone had heard.

The officer immediately moved toward him.

But Michael suddenly smiled.

Because he still had one card left.

“You think this is over?”

David stared.

“What else?”

Michael looked at Blair.

“Ask her what she remembers from the night she disappeared.”

Everyone looked at Blair.

May you like

The little girl became pale.

Because she knew exactly what he meant.
