Chapter 3 - THE FAMILY THAT HID THE TRUTH

Camila didnât open the door.
Not immediately.
She needed time.
Four years of pain could not disappear because someone knocked on a hotel room.
She sat on the edge of the bed.
Isabella was coloring beside her.
Completely unaware that her motherâs entire understanding of the past was falling apart.
âMommy.â
Camila looked up.
âCan I draw our new house?â
Her heart broke.
âOf course, baby.â
Isabella smiled.
She grabbed her crayons.
A few minutes later, she held up the paper.
It was a simple drawing.
A house.
A tree.
Two people holding hands.
Camila smiled.
âWho is that?â
âThatâs me.â
âAnd this?â
âMommy.â
Camila pointed at the third person.
âAnd him?â
Isabella smiled.
âDaddy.â
Camila froze.
She had never expected that answer.
Isabella had never met Daniel.
Not once.
But somehow, she always believed he existed.
Children had a strange way of feeling things adults tried to hide.
Camila looked away.
A tear fell.
Then another.
She finally opened the door.
Victoria was still there.
The woman looked relieved.
âThank you for hearing me.â
Camila stepped aside.
âBut you have five minutes.â
Victoria nodded.
âThatâs fair.â
They entered the room.
The man with her placed the folder on the table.
âMy name is Michael.â
Camila remained standing.
âStart talking.â
Victoria took a deep breath.
âDaniel Hayes was my brother.â
Camilaâs eyes widened.
âHayes?â
The same last name written on the letter.
The same name she had seen on documents years ago.
Victoria continued.
âDaniel was supposed to inherit one of the largest family companies in the country.â
âBut he didnât care about money.â
âHe cared about you.â
Camila looked away.
âThatâs not what happened.â
Victoria lowered her eyes.
âI know.â
âHe disappeared.â
âHe was forced to disappear.â
The room became silent.
Michael opened the folder.
Inside were documents.
Hospital records.
Letters.
Emails.
Proof.
âDaniel found out his father was hiding illegal financial activities.â
Michael explained.
âHe planned to expose everything.â
Camila listened carefully.
âBut before he couldâŠâ
Victoria swallowed.
âSomeone attacked his car.â
Camila covered her mouth.
âIs heâŠâ
âHe survived.â
The answer shocked her.
âHe survived?â
âYes.â
âThen why didnât he come back?â
Victoria looked at her.
âBecause he couldnât remember everything.â
Camila felt tears forming again.
âHe had injuries.â
âHe spent months recovering.â
âBy the time he remembered youâŠâ
Victoria stopped.
âWhat?â
Camila stepped forward.
âWhat happened?â
Victoria looked down.
âHe was told you had moved away.â
âHe was told you didnât want him anymore.â
Camila felt anger replacing sadness.
âI would never say that.â
âI know.â
Victoria opened another document.
âThis is why.â
Inside was a letter.
A letter that looked exactly like Camilaâs handwriting.
Camila grabbed it.
She read the first sentence.
Daniel,
Please stop looking for me.
I donât want you in my life anymore.
Her face turned pale.
âThatâs impossible.â
Victoria nodded.
âBecause you didnât write it.â
The room went silent.
Someone had forged her words.
Someone had destroyed their family before it even began.
Camila looked at Isabella.
Then at the documents.
Then at the photograph from the envelope.
The stranger in the blue suit.
The man who had found her on the bench.
Suddenly, she understood.
He wasnât just helping her.
He was trying to repair something that had been broken for years.
âWho is he?â
Camila asked.
Victoria hesitated.
âThe man who gave you the envelope?â
Camila nodded.
Victoria looked at her.
âThat man is Adrian Hayes.â
Camila froze.
âDanielâs older brother.â
The same family.
The same bloodline.
The same people connected to the secret.
âBut why would he help me?â
Victoriaâs expression became serious.
âBecause Adrian was the one who discovered the truth.â
âAnd he has spent years trying to fix the mistake his family made.â
Camila looked at Isabella sleeping peacefully.
Then at the envelope.
Then at the door.
For four years, she thought she had been abandoned.
Now she discovered she had been stolen from.
And somewhere in the cityâŠ
A powerful man was carrying the guilt of an entire family on his shoulders.
But Camila didnât know one thing yet.
May you like
The person who destroyed her life was still watching.
And they were not ready to let the truth come out.
