Chapter 5 - THE NIGHT SOMEONE TRIED TO TAKE MIA
The mansion was placed under lockdown.
Nobody entered.
Nobody left.
Every guard searched every corner.
Damiano stood in his office.
The photograph was still on the desk.
Rafael stood across from him.
“You think I betrayed you?”
Damiano stared at him.
“I think someone did.”
Rafael looked hurt.
“After twenty years?”
Damiano said nothing.
Because trust was dangerous.
Especially in his world.
That night, Mia woke up from a nightmare.
She walked through the dark hallway.
“Daddy?”
Her small voice echoed.
Damiano immediately appeared.
He had never moved that fast for anyone.
“What happened?”
Mia grabbed his hand.
“I heard mommy crying.”
Damiano froze.
“Your mother?”
Mia nodded.
“She said someone bad was coming.”

The lights went out.
The entire mansion fell into darkness.
A sound came from upstairs.
A door opening.
Damiano pulled Mia behind him.
His protective instincts took over.
The guards rushed in.
But they were too late.
A shadow disappeared through the window.
On the floor was a single object.
A small red paper heart.
The same kind Mia carried.
Damiano picked it up.
And on the back was written one sentence.
“Your little family will destroy you.”
For the first time in years…
Damiano Verrone felt fear.
Not for himself.
For the little girl standing behind him.
He looked at Mia.
Then at the message.
And he made a decision.

“Rafael.”
“Yes, boss?”
“Find everyone who knows about Mia.”
Rafael nodded.
“And when you find them?”
Damiano’s eyes turned cold.
“Make sure they understand one thing.”
He held Mia’s hand tightly.
“Nobody touches my daughter.”
