Chapter 4 - THE ENEMY INSIDE THE MANSION
Damiano could not sleep.
The necklace kept appearing in his mind.
A memory he buried.
A pain he refused to face.
At sunrise, he confronted Sofia.
She stood quietly in the mansion garden.
“You knew my wife.”
Sofia froze.
Damiano held up the necklace photo.
“Explain.”
Sofia’s face turned pale.
“I never wanted you to find out this way.”
“Find out what?”
Sofia looked toward Mia playing nearby.
Then she whispered.
“Your wife saved my life.”
Damiano said nothing.
“Three years ago, before she died, she discovered someone was planning to betray you.”
His jaw tightened.
“Who?”
Sofia shook her head.
“She never told me the name.”
“Why?”
“Because she was afraid I would die.”
Damiano stepped closer.
“What does Mia have to do with this?”
Sofia looked terrified.
“She knows something.”
Damiano turned.
“Mia?”
Sofia nodded.
“Not because she understands it.”
“She was too young.”
“But she saw something.”
Suddenly, a loud crash came from inside the mansion.
Guards rushed toward the sound.
Damiano immediately ran.
They found Mia standing in the hallway.
Holding a broken picture frame.
Her face was full of fear.
“I’m sorry.”
Damiano knelt.
“What happened?”
Mia pointed at the picture.
“I saw this man before.”
Everyone froze.
Damiano picked up the photograph.
It showed his closest adviser.
Rafael Conti.
Damiano slowly looked at Rafael.
The entire room went silent.
Rafael stepped forward.
“Boss…”
But Damiano raised his hand.
Nobody moved.
Because for the first time…
A doubt entered the mafia king’s mind.
