Damiano thought protecting Mia would be simple.
He was wrong.
Because the danger was already inside his own world.
That evening, the five mafia families gathered for their private meeting.
Nobody talked about business.
Everyone talked about Mia.
Silvio Marchetti leaned back in his chair.
“A child?”
He laughed.
“The great Damiano Verrone has become emotional.”
Nobody laughed.
Because nobody wanted to be the first.
Damiano entered the room.
The conversation stopped immediately.
Silvio smiled.
“Is it true?”
Damiano looked at him.
“What?”
“That you are playing family with a maid’s daughter.”
The room became cold.
Damiano walked closer.
“She has a name.”
Silvio raised an eyebrow.
“Mia.”
Damiano placed both hands on the table.
“And anyone who disrespects her answers to me.”
The message was clear.
Nobody touched Mia.
Nobody questioned his decision.
But later that night, Rafael discovered something disturbing.
He rushed into Damiano’s office.
“We found something.”
Damiano looked up.
“What?”
“Sofia Bellini wasn’t just a maid.”
Rafael placed documents on the desk.
“She was investigating your enemies.”
Damiano frowned.
“Why?”
“Because three years ago, she discovered someone inside your organization was selling information.”
Damiano became still.
“Who?”
Rafael hesitated.
“We don’t know yet.”
Damiano looked at the documents.
Then he saw one final piece of information.
A picture.
Sofia.
Holding a baby.
Three years ago.
Damiano’s eyes narrowed.
Because the baby was wearing a necklace.
