Chapter 4 - The Secret Inside the Car

Ryan refused to confess.
Instead, he attacked.
“This is a setup.”
Detective Mason crossed his arms.
“By who?”
Ryan looked at Claire.
Claire looked terrified.
Emily realized something.
Ryan wasn’t protecting Claire.
He was blaming her.
“You did this,” Ryan suddenly said.
Claire’s face changed.
“What?”
“You were the one who suggested taking control of Emily’s accounts.”
“No!”
The betrayal happened instantly.
The woman who helped him was now his enemy.
Ethan watched them argue.
His small voice interrupted.
“Why did you hate my mom?”
Nobody answered.
Claire started crying.
“She had everything.”
Emily’s heart sank.
Claire continued.
“Everyone loved Emily.”
“That’s not true,” Ethan whispered.
Claire looked at him.
“I spent my whole life standing behind her.”
Emily remembered every birthday.
Every family dinner.
Every moment Claire smiled.
Now she understood.
The jealousy had been hiding for years.
Detective Mason opened another file.
“Ryan wasn’t just trying to steal money.”
He looked at Emily’s bed.
“He was trying to make it look like your death was natural.”
A pause.
“He changed your medication.”
The machines beside Emily beeped faster.
Her husband hadn’t just wanted her gone.
He had planned every detail.
Then the detective received a call.
His expression changed.
“What?”
Everyone looked at him.
“We found the person who helped Ryan cut the brake lines.”
A pause.
“She’s still alive.”
Ryan’s face went white.
