Chapter 2 - The Husband Who Wanted Her Silent

The detective’s words hung in the hospital room.

“Her brake lines were deliberately cut.”

Ryan stared at him.

Then he laughed.

A small laugh.

A fake laugh.

“That’s impossible.”

Detective Mason didn’t react.

“Why?”

“Because my wife had an accident.”

“No.”

The detective opened another document.

“Your wife survived an attempted murder.”

Emily felt cold.

The word sounded different when someone else said it.

Murder.

Someone wanted her dead.

Ryan stepped forward.

“You’re making a mistake.”

Ms. Parker shook her head.

“No, Ryan. The mistake was thinking Emily had nobody protecting her.”

Claire’s face changed.

Emily noticed.

The confidence was gone.

The detective looked at Ethan.

“Son, can you tell me what happened the night your mother crashed?”

Ethan looked at Ryan.

A small movement.

But everyone noticed.

He was afraid.

“Ethan,” Ryan said softly.

The warning was hidden inside that single word.

Detective Mason noticed too.

“Ethan, you don’t have to be afraid.”

“I’m not afraid.”

But his voice was shaking.

Emily wanted to reach for him.

She wanted to tell him:

You are brave.

You saved me.

But she remained trapped.

Ms. Parker walked to the bed.

She looked at Emily.

Then she quietly said:

“Emily, if you can hear me…”

Ryan froze.

“If you are still in there…”

Everyone waited.

“Give us a sign.”

Emily focused.

Her entire body felt like it weighed a thousand pounds.

But she had already moved once.

She could do it again.

Slowly…

Her finger moved.

The room exploded into silence.

Ethan covered his mouth.

Claire stepped backward.

Ryan whispered:

“No.”

The detective looked at Emily.

“She’s awake.”

Ryan’s face turned empty.

Not sadness.

Not relief.

Fear.

Pure fear.

Because Emily Carter had heard everything.

Ms. Parker leaned closer.

“Emily, don’t move anymore.”

Then she looked at Ryan.

“You failed.”

Ryan’s jaw tightened.

“What are you talking about?”

“The one thing you needed was time.”

She pointed at Emily.

“But she woke up before you finished.”

Ryan suddenly moved toward the bed.

Ethan stepped in front of him.

“Don’t touch her.”

Ryan stared at his son.

“You don’t understand what’s happening.”

Ethan’s eyes filled with tears.

“Yes, I do.”

A pause.

“You tried to kill my mom.”

The words hit the room like an explosion.

Ryan looked at Claire.

Claire looked away.

And that was when Emily knew.

Her sister was hiding something.

Something much bigger.

The detective opened another file.

“We found financial transfers from Ryan Carter’s account.”

Ryan’s face changed.

“Those are personal.”

“Millions of dollars moved three days before the accident.”

Emily’s heart sank.

Then the detective said the sentence that changed everything.

“And the money was transferred to an account belonging to Claire Bennett.”

Claire stopped breathing.

Emily’s eyes remained closed.

But inside…

Her world shattered.

Her husband.

Her sister.

Together.

Planning her death.

The detective stepped closer.

“Now I have one question.”

He looked at Claire.

“Why did you help him?”

Claire’s lips trembled.

“I didn’t.”

But nobody believed her.

Because before she could say another word…

Her phone rang.

The screen lit up.

Everyone saw the name.

Ryan.

But Ryan was standing right there.

The detective slowly picked up the phone.

And everyone saw the message waiting.

“She knows. Finish it tonight.”

The room went silent.

And Emily understood something terrifying.

The people who tried to kill her once…

May you like

Were ready to try again.
