Chapter 6 - THE SECRET OF LEO’S BIRTH

The man in the picture.

I knew him.

But I wished I didn’t.

“Who is he?” Adrian asked.

I couldn’t answer.

Because suddenly memories came rushing back.

A hospital hallway.

A crying newborn.

A woman begging for help.

A man who shouldn’t have been there.

“I saw him before.”

Adrian stepped closer.

“Where?”

“At St. Mary’s.”

His eyes sharpened.

“When?”

I looked at Leo.

“The night he was born.”

The entire world seemed to stop.

Adrian’s expression changed.

“What did you say?”

I swallowed.

“I worked that night.”

“No.”

His voice became darker.

“No, that’s impossible.”

“Why?”

“Because everyone who was there
”

He stopped.

I waited.

“Everyone who was connected to that night disappeared.”

A chill moved through me.

“What are you talking about?”

Adrian looked toward his son.

“Leo’s birth wasn’t supposed to happen at that hospital.”

I frowned.

“What?”

“My wife went into labor unexpectedly.”

He paused.

“We were attacked that night.”

My heart started racing.

“What kind of attack?”

“Someone wanted my son dead before he was even born.”

I stared at him.

“And you think I know something?”

“I think you saw something.”

I shook my head.

“No. I was just a nurse.”

Adrian stepped closer.

“Emily.”

His voice was different.

Not threatening.

Desperate.

“What happened that night?”

I closed my eyes.

I remembered.

I remembered a woman crying.

I remembered a newborn baby being rushed away.

I remembered a man arguing with hospital staff.

And one thing I never forgot.

A bracelet.

A small silver bracelet around the baby’s wrist.

With one word engraved on it.

VIS CARI.

I looked at Adrian.

“I saw your son.”

His face went pale.

“What?”

“I was there.”

The room became silent.

“You were the nurse?”

I nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

Adrian stared at me.

Like the answer changed everything.

Then his phone rang.

He answered.

Listened.

And his expression turned terrifying.

“Lock down the building.”

I froze.

“What happened?”

He looked at me.

Then at Leo.

“Someone inside my organization has betrayed me.”

A pause.

“And they know you’re here.”

Before I could react, the lights in the airport suddenly went out.

People screamed.

The emergency alarms started.

Adrian immediately grabbed Leo.

His bodyguards surrounded us.

Then I heard a voice from the darkness.

A voice I knew.

A voice I never wanted to hear again.

“Emily.”

My blood froze.

Mark.

He was here.

Adrian looked at me.

And for the first time

I saw something dangerous in his eyes.

Not because he wanted to hurt someone.

Because someone had threatened his family.

And now

May you like

They had threatened mine.
