Chapter 12 - THE NIGHT THEY CAME FOR MAYA

I have never moved faster in my life.

The moment I saw Maya on the screen, everything disappeared.

The guards.

The threats.

The secrets.

Only one thing mattered.

My daughter.

“Maya!”

I ran.

Adrian was right behind me.

His entire security team followed.

The estate became chaos.

Doors opened.

People shouted.

Phones rang.

But I heard nothing.

Because my little girl was alone.

When we reached the bedroom, the door was open.

My heart almost stopped.

“Maya?”

No answer.

I stepped inside.

The room was empty.

Her blanket was on the floor.

Her stuffed animal was missing.

And the window was open.

“No.”

The word came out broken.

Adrian entered behind me.

He saw the room.

And something in him changed.

Not anger.

Not fear.

Pain.

Because he understood.

Someone had taken my child.

The same way someone tried to take his.

I fell to my knees.

“This is my fault.”

Adrian immediately turned.

“No.”

“I brought her into this.”

“No.”

His voice became firm.

“You protected her.”

I looked at him.

“You don’t know that.”

“Yes.”

He stepped closer.

“Because I saw you walk into first class for a baby you didn’t know.”

A pause.

“You think I believe you would abandon your own child?”

I couldn’t answer.

Then a guard rushed in.

“Boss.”

Adrian turned.

“We found something.”

He handed him a phone.

A video.

Adrian pressed play.

The screen showed Mark.

And beside him

Maya.

My blood froze.

“Mommy!”

Her voice.

My daughter’s voice.

I almost collapsed.

Mark looked into the camera.

“Emily.”

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

“You always thought you were protecting her.”

I grabbed the phone.

“Mark!”

He smiled.

“Now you’ll understand.”

Adrian took the phone.

“Where is she?”

Mark laughed.

“You should ask yourself something.”

“What?”

“Why do you think I changed her records?”

Silence.

Mark continued.

“Why do you think I stayed with Emily for all these years?”

My breathing stopped.

Because suddenly I understood.

My marriage wasn’t built on love.

It was built on a lie.

Mark looked at the camera.

“Maya was never supposed to be yours.”

I screamed.

“Shut up!”

But he kept talking.

“She was supposed to lead us back to what Adrian lost.”

Adrian’s face became terrifying.

“What did you do?”

Mark smiled.

“You’ll find out.”

The video ended.

The room went silent.

Then Adrian spoke.

Quietly.

Dangerously.

“He took my son’s sister.”

I looked at him.

“Sister?”

He looked at me.

And in that moment

We both understood.

The truth we had been chasing for years.

The children.

The hospital.

The records.

The lies.

Everything connected.

Maya and Leo weren’t just part of the same secret.

They were family.

And now someone had taken Maya because they knew the one thing that could destroy Adrian Viscari.

A father would do anything to get his child back.

May you like

Even start a war.
