Chapter 6 - THE DEBT MONEY COULDN’T PAY

Dominic Moretti had spent his life believing every debt could be settled.

Money.

Power.

Influence.

Fear.

Everything had a price.

Until Hannah Reed walked into his life.

Because her debt was different.

It was personal.

And it was connected to him.

The next morning, Hannah finally told him the truth.

“My mother worked for your family.”

Dominic stared.

“What?”

“She discovered something.”

“What?”

Hannah looked down.

“She discovered someone was stealing from the Moretti organization.”

Dominic’s expression changed.

“And?”

“She tried to expose them.”

A pause.

“She disappeared.”

The room became silent.

Dominic already knew the answer.

“Who?”

Hannah looked at him.

“I don’t know.”

But her eyes said she did.

Dominic stepped closer.

“You’re protecting someone.”

“No.”

“You are.”

Hannah looked away.

Then whispered:

“Because if I tell you, people will die.”

Dominic’s jaw tightened.

“People already died.”

That broke something inside her.

For eight years, Hannah had carried the truth alone.

But now she was tired.

Tired of hiding.

Tired of running.

Tired of watching innocent people pay for someone else’s crimes.

She reached into her pocket.

And placed a small key on the table.

Dominic looked at it.

“What is this?”

“The proof.”

“Proof of what?”

Hannah looked at him.

“The reason your family has been lying to you for eight years.”

Dominic picked up the key.

And noticed something engraved on it.

A symbol.

A symbol he had seen before.

On documents.

On secret accounts.

On files that disappeared.

His father’s old company seal.

Dominic looked up.

“Hannah…”

She whispered:

“The person who destroyed my life…”

A pause.

“Is the same person who raised you.”

Dominic felt the world shift.

May you like

Because the truth he had spent his life searching for…

Was hidden inside his own family.
