Chapter 4 - THE SECRET BEHIND HER HANDS

Dominic stared at Hannah.

The knife was on the floor.

The intruder was unconscious.

And the woman who was supposed to clean his house was standing there like someone trained for war.

“Who are you?”

The question left Dominic’s mouth before he could stop it.

Hannah looked at him.

For the first time, she had no answer.

Because she knew the truth was coming.

“I told you my name.”

“No.”

Dominic stepped closer.

“You told me a name.”

Her face changed.

Only slightly.

But enough.

“You’re not a maid.”

“I am.”

“You’re something else.”

Hannah looked at the unconscious man.

Then back at Dominic.

“I’m someone who learned how to survive.”

Dominic hated that answer.

Because it sounded like the truth.

The police were never called.

Dominic handled problems differently.

The intruder was taken away.

The mansion returned to silence.

But Dominic’s questions only grew louder.

The next morning, Marco delivered another file.

This one was thicker.

Much thicker.

“Boss.”

Dominic opened it.

Inside were photos.

Old documents.

Medical records.

And one name.

Emily Carter.

“She was part of a witness protection program.”

Dominic looked up.

“For what?”

Marco hesitated.

“She witnessed something connected to a powerful organization.”

Dominic knew immediately.

Not his organization.

Someone else’s.

“Who?”

Marco placed another photo on the desk.

Dominic looked down.

And his expression changed.

Because the person connected to Emily’s disappearance…

Was someone Dominic trusted.

Someone who attended his dinners.

Someone who shook his hand.

Someone who called himself family.

Vanessa Whitmore’s father.

Dominic stared at the picture.

“No.”

Marco stayed silent.

“Tell me this is wrong.”

“I wish it was.”

That evening, Dominic confronted Vanessa.

She was sitting in the living room like nothing had happened.

“You knew who she was.”

Vanessa looked up.

“What?”

“You knew Hannah.”

Her face became still.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Dominic placed the photograph on the table.

Vanessa looked at it.

And went pale.

That reaction was enough.

“You lied to me.”

“No.”

“You knew.”

Vanessa stood.

“Dominic, listen to me.”

“No.”

His voice was colder than she had ever heard.

“You listen.”

A silence filled the room.

“You brought danger into my home.”

Vanessa’s eyes filled with anger.

“She is not innocent.”

Dominic looked at her.

“Neither are you.”

And for the first time…

May you like

Vanessa looked afraid.
