Chapter 6 - THE PERSON WHO BETRAYED THEM

Ethan watched the video five times.

Every time, the same feeling returned.

Disbelief.

Anger.

Betrayal.

Because the person standing behind Daniel wasn’t a stranger.

It was his father’s closest advisor.

Martin Hayes.

A man who had worked for the Cole family for thirty years.

A man Ethan trusted.

A man who helped raise him.

“No
”

Ethan stepped back.

Emma looked at him.

“You know him?”

“Yes.”

“Who is he?”

Ethan stared at the frozen screen.

“He was like family.”

Emma’s expression hardened.

“That’s what makes him dangerous.”

The next morning, Ethan went straight to the company headquarters.

He didn’t tell anyone.

He didn’t warn anyone.

He wanted to see who would panic.

The moment he entered the building, employees froze.

Because everyone believed Ethan Cole had disappeared years ago.

The rumors.

The mystery.

The missing heir.

They all thought he was gone.

The receptionist dropped her coffee.

“Mr. Cole?”

Ethan looked at her.

“Yes.”

Within minutes, the entire building was in chaos.

Executives rushed out.

Security guards followed.

And then Martin Hayes appeared.

Older.

Gray hair.

Same calm smile.

“Ethan.”

They stared at each other.

Martin smiled.

“I knew you would come back someday.”

Ethan walked closer.

“Did you?”

Martin sighed.

“You have no idea how complicated things became.”

“No.”

Ethan’s voice was cold.

“You made them complicated.”

Martin looked around.

“Can we talk privately?”

“No.”

Ethan stepped closer.

“Everyone should hear this.”

The employees watched.

Martin lowered his voice.

“Be careful.”

“Is that a threat?”

“It’s advice.”

Ethan laughed.

“You helped my brother destroy my family.”

Martin’s face changed slightly.

Only slightly.

But Ethan noticed.

“You know.”

Silence.

“You knew Emma was alive.”

Martin looked away.

That was the answer.

Ethan felt sick.

“Why?”

Martin finally looked at him.

“Because your father chose you.”

“What?”

“He left you everything.”

Ethan stared.

“You betrayed me because of an inheritance?”

Martin’s expression turned bitter.

“You think money was the reason?”

“Then what?”

Martin stepped closer.

“For thirty years, I built that company.”

“My father trusted you.”

“He used me.”

Ethan shook his head.

“No.”

Martin smiled sadly.

“People like you never understand.”

Then he whispered:

“You were born with everything.”

“And people like me had to fight for every piece.”

Before Ethan could respond, security alarms suddenly started ringing.

Everyone looked around.

A message appeared on the giant screen in the lobby.

CEO POSITION REASSIGNED.

The employees gasped.

Ethan stared.

“What is this?”

Martin smiled.

“The board made a decision.”

“That’s impossible.”

Martin leaned closer.

“Your brother prepared for this moment.”

The screen changed.

A live video appeared.

Daniel.

Again.

“Congratulations, brother.”

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

Daniel smiled.

“You found the truth.”

A pause.

“But you’re too late.”

The video showed Lena.

Standing beside him.

Emma screamed.

“No!”

Ethan’s blood turned cold.

Daniel looked into the camera.

“Now let’s talk about what belongs to me.”

The screen went black.

Ethan didn’t move.

May you like

Because the one thing he promised to protect

Had been taken.
