Chapter 12 - THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE

The lawyer’s name was Arthur Bennett.

For twenty years, Arthur had been the man Ethan’s father trusted most.

He handled the family estate.

The contracts.

The company documents.

Everything.

And now he was standing beside Lena.

On Daniel’s side.

“Arthur.”

Ethan’s voice was full of disbelief.

Arthur looked uncomfortable.

“I know how this looks.”

“How it looks?”

Ethan laughed.

“My daughter is missing.”

“My brother tried to destroy my family.”

“And you’re standing next to him.”

Arthur lowered his eyes.

“I made mistakes.”

Ethan shook his head.

“Everyone keeps saying that.”

Daniel smiled.

“Because everyone knows you’re going to hate the truth.”

Emma stepped closer.

“What did you do?”

Arthur looked at her.

“I protected the family.”

“No.”

Emma’s voice hardened.

“You protected yourself.”

Arthur looked away.

Daniel laughed.

“Still defending him after all these years.”

Ethan stared at Daniel.

“What did you do?”

Daniel walked closer.

“I showed Arthur the truth.”

“What truth?”

“That your father never planned to give you everything.”

Ethan frowned.

“What?”

Daniel smiled.

“The company.”

“The money.”

“The power.”

“All of it.”

He pointed at Arthur.

“He changed the trust before he died.”

Ethan looked at Arthur.

“Is that true?”

Arthur stayed silent.

And silence was enough.

Ethan felt the world shift.

“What did my father change?”

Arthur finally spoke.

“He wanted you to earn leadership.”

Ethan stared.

“He wanted Daniel and you to work together.”

Daniel laughed.

“Work together?”

His face became bitter.

“He wanted us to share.”

Arthur nodded.

“Yes.”

Ethan looked confused.

“Then why did you help Daniel?”

Arthur closed his eyes.

“Because I believed he deserved a chance.”

Emma whispered:

“And what did he do?”

Arthur looked ashamed.

“He destroyed everything.”

Daniel’s smile disappeared.

“You’re getting emotional, Arthur.”

Arthur looked at him.

“You promised nobody would get hurt.”

Daniel laughed.

“Everyone gets hurt.”

The room became tense.

Then Ethan noticed something.

Lena wasn’t scared of Arthur.

She was scared of Daniel.

And that told him everything.

Ethan looked at the camera.

“Lena.”

She looked up.

“Daddy?”

“I’m coming.”

Daniel grabbed the phone.

“No.”

Ethan stared.

Daniel smiled.

“You still think you can save everyone.”

Ethan looked at him.

“You kidnapped a child.”

Daniel’s expression changed.

For the first time

A crack appeared.

“You don’t understand what it feels like to lose everything.”

Ethan answered quietly:

“No.”

“I understand exactly.”

The words hit Daniel.

Because Ethan wasn’t angry anymore.

He was calm.

And that frightened Daniel.

Ethan continued.

“I lost seven years with my daughter.”

“I lost my wife.”

“I lost my family.”

“But I’m still standing.”

Daniel stared.

“You think you won.”

Ethan stepped closer to the camera.

“You forgot one thing.”

“What?”

“My daughter knows who loves her.”

Lena looked at Daniel.

Then quietly said:

“You’re not my daddy.”

Everyone froze.

Daniel’s face changed.

The little girl had finally said the one thing he feared.

She chose Ethan.

Daniel grabbed the phone away.

The screen went black.

But before it ended

Ethan heard Lena scream.

“Daddy!”

Then silence.

Ethan’s face turned cold.

May you like

Because he knew.

The final battle had begun.
