Chapter 13 - THE LAST MOVE

Ethan had spent seven years searching for the truth.

Now he finally had it.

And he hated every piece of it.

The lies.

The betrayal.

The people who smiled at him while destroying his family behind his back.

But one thing mattered more than revenge.

Lena.

“My daughter is still alive.”

Ethan said the words quietly.

But everyone in the room heard the promise behind them.

He was bringing her home.

Emma looked at him.

“Ethan, Daniel won’t stop.”

Ethan grabbed his jacket.

“Neither will I.”

“He’s dangerous.”

“So am I.”

She shook her head.

“No.”

Her voice softened.

“You’re not like him.”

Ethan stopped.

For years, anger had controlled him.

For years, he wanted answers.

Now he finally understood something.

Daniel wanted him to become exactly like him.

Cold.

Cruel.

Driven by revenge.

But Ethan had something Daniel never had.

A reason to fight.

His daughter.

Arthur stepped forward.

“I can help.”

Ethan looked at him.

“You betrayed us.”

Arthur lowered his head.

“I know.”

“You helped Daniel create this nightmare.”

“I know.”

“Then why should I trust you?”

Arthur looked toward the phone where Lena’s last image remained frozen.

“Because I made the mistake of believing Daniel wanted fairness.”

He swallowed.

“I was wrong.”

Ethan stared.

“What do you know?”

Arthur reached into his coat.

He pulled out a small key.

“I found this years ago.”

Emma recognized it immediately.

“Where did you get that?”

Arthur looked at her.

“Your husband’s father left it.”

Ethan frowned.

“My father?”

Arthur nodded.

“He knew Daniel was becoming dangerous.”

The room went quiet.

“He created a backup plan.”

Ethan took the key.

“What does it open?”

Arthur answered:

“The family vault.”

Ethan’s eyes narrowed.

“Where?”

“Under the old company building.”

Emma looked shocked.

“Why didn’t you tell anyone?”

Arthur looked ashamed.

“Because Daniel threatened my family.”

Ethan understood.

Fear.

That was Daniel’s greatest weapon.

He didn’t need to control people with money.

He controlled them with secrets.

An hour later, Ethan, Emma, and Arthur entered the underground vault.

Inside were documents.

Hard drives.

Letters.

Everything Ethan’s father had hidden.

Ethan opened the first file.

And immediately froze.

A recorded message.

His father appeared on the screen.

“Ethan.”

His voice was older.

Tired.

“If you’re watching this, something happened.”

Ethan stared.

His father continued.

“I know Daniel feels forgotten.”

A pause.

“But I never stopped loving him.”

Ethan lowered his eyes.

The message continued.

“However, love does not mean allowing someone to destroy others.”

The screen changed.

A list of transactions appeared.

Daniel’s illegal activities.

The money he stole.

The people he threatened.

Everything.

Ethan looked at Arthur.

“This proves everything.”

Arthur nodded.

But then another file appeared.

A video.

Recorded seven years earlier.

Ethan clicked.

And there she was.

Emma.

Pregnant.

Crying.

Talking to someone.

Daniel.

Ethan watched silently.

Daniel’s voice came through the speakers.

“You disappear tonight.”

Emma looked terrified.

“What about Ethan?”

Daniel smiled.

“He’ll believe anything I tell him.”

The video continued.

Then Daniel said something that made Ethan’s blood run cold.

“The child will be mine.”

Emma slapped him.

“You’re insane.”

Daniel laughed.

“No.”

“I’m patient.”

The video ended.

Nobody spoke.

Because the truth was finally undeniable.

Daniel had planned everything.

From the beginning.

Then Ethan’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

Daniel’s voice came through.

“Found my little surprise?”

Ethan gripped the phone.

“Where is my daughter?”

Daniel laughed.

“Come find her.”

A pause.

“But come alone.”

Ethan looked at Emma.

She immediately shook her head.

“No.”

“I have to.”

“He wants you angry.”

Ethan looked at her.

“He wants me alone.”

Emma grabbed his hand.

“Then don’t give him what he wants.”

Ethan looked at the evidence.

The truth.

The proof.

Everything they needed.

And then he smiled.

A small, confident smile.

“No.”

Daniel thought Ethan was coming alone.

He was wrong.

Because Ethan finally understood.

This was never about fighting one man.

It was about exposing him.

CLIFFHANGER:

Ethan was ready to face Daniel.

But this time, Daniel wouldn’t be controlling the game.
