Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

By midnight, the Carter mansion was no longer a home.
It was a crime scene.
Police officers searched every room.
Employees were questioned.
Security footage was reviewed.
But Michael only cared about one thing.
Finding Noah.
At the hospital, doctors worked for hours.
Finally, the specialist came out.
Michael stood immediately.
“How is he?”
The doctor removed his mask.
“He’s stable.”
Michael closed his eyes.
The first breath he had taken in hours.
“But…”
The word made him open them again.
“But what?”
The doctor looked serious.
“Whatever triggered the reaction was extremely dangerous.”
Michael’s hands tightened.
“Someone did this.”
The doctor didn’t answer.
But his silence confirmed it.
Later that night, Emily sat alone in the hospital hallway.
Michael approached.
“You knew about allergies.”
She looked up.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Emily looked away.
“My younger brother had the same condition.”
Michael studied her.
“You never told anyone.”
“No one asked.”
That answer bothered him.
Because it was true.
Everyone in his house knew her name.
Nobody knew her story.
“Emily.”
She looked at him.
“How did you know where to look?”
Her expression changed.
A long pause.
Then she whispered:
“Because I saw someone put something near Noah’s crib.”
Michael froze.
“Who?”
Emily looked terrified.
“I don’t know.”
“You saw their face?”
“No.”
“Then what did you see?”
Emily’s voice dropped.
“A tattoo.”
Michael leaned closer.
“What tattoo?”
She swallowed.
“A black snake.”
The color disappeared from Frank’s face.
Michael noticed.
“Frank?”
His security chief looked away.
“Tell me.”
Frank hesitated.
Then said:
“That symbol belonged to someone who worked for you years ago.”
“Who?”
Frank whispered:
“Your brother.”
Michael went completely still.
“My brother is dead.”
May you like
Frank looked at him.
“That’s what everyone thought.”
