Chapter 13 - THE SECRET ROOM

The hidden room beneath Carter Industries was supposed to be impossible.

Michael had grown up in that building.

He knew every hallway.

Every floor.

Every security system.

Yet beneath his father’s old office existed a place he had never seen.

A place someone had worked hard to hide.

The elevator descended slowly.

Nobody spoke.

Michael stood in the front.

Daniel beside him.

Emily behind them.

Frank and security followed.

The deeper they went, the colder the air became.

Finally, the elevator stopped.

The doors opened.

A dark hallway waited.

Frank raised his flashlight.

“Whoever built this wanted privacy.”

Michael stepped forward.

“No.”

His voice was cold.

“They wanted control.”

At the end of the hallway was a steel door.

No handle.

No lock.

Only a fingerprint scanner.

Michael stared.

“How does it open?”

Daniel looked at him.

“Your father.”

Michael froze.

“My father?”

Daniel nodded.

“He built this room before he died.”

Frank looked confused.

“Why?”

Daniel answered:

“Because he knew someone was coming for him.”

Michael placed his hand on the scanner.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then…

A green light appeared.

The door opened.

Inside was a room frozen in time.

Documents.

Hard drives.

Photos.

Old recordings.

Everything carefully organized.

Emily walked slowly inside.

“This is where the truth was hidden.”

Michael picked up a file.

The name on it made his blood run cold.

SARAH CARTER.

His wife.

His hands shook as he opened it.

Inside were photographs.

Medical records.

Messages.

And one handwritten note.

Michael read it.

His face changed.

“What does it say?” Daniel asked.

Michael couldn’t answer.

Emily took the paper.

Her eyes moved across the words.

Then she whispered:

“Sarah knew Noah was in danger before he was born.”

Silence.

Michael looked at her.

“What?”

Emily continued reading.

“She wrote that someone inside the family wanted the Carter bloodline gone.”

Daniel looked toward Victoria.

“No.”

Michael kept reading.

The final sentence was written in Sarah’s handwriting.

If anything happens to me, protect my son from the person closest to him.

Michael felt sick.

The person closest to him.

His mother.

But then Emily noticed something else.

A video file.

Recorded three days before Sarah died.

She pressed play.

The screen flickered.

Then Sarah appeared.

Michael stopped breathing.

His wife.

Alive.

Smiling.

But terrified.

“If you’re watching this…”

Sarah looked directly into the camera.

“Something happened to me.”

Michael covered his mouth.

Sarah continued.

“Michael, I need you to listen carefully.”

A pause.

“Do not trust your mother.”

The room went silent.

Then Sarah said the words that destroyed everything.

“She didn’t kill me because of money.”

Michael leaned closer.

“Why?”

Sarah looked afraid.

“She killed me because she found out…”

The video suddenly cut.

Everyone froze.

The file ended.

Emily checked the computer.

“Someone deleted the rest.”

Michael stared at the screen.

“Who?”

Then the lights went out.

May you like

A sound came from the hallway.

Someone was inside.
