Chapter 14 - THE LAST BETRAYAL

Darkness filled the room.

Nobody moved.

Frank immediately raised his weapon.

“Show yourself!”

No answer.

Only footsteps.

Slow.

Calm.

Coming closer.

Michael pulled Emily behind him.

Daniel looked toward the door.

“She followed us.”

Michael looked at him.

“Who?”

Daniel didn’t answer.

Because he already knew.

The door opened.

A figure stepped inside.

Not Victoria.

Someone else.

Michael’s personal assistant.

The man who had worked beside him for years.

Andrew Blake.

Michael stared.

“You.”

Andrew smiled.

“I was wondering how long it would take.”

Frank aimed his gun.

“Hands up.”

Andrew laughed.

“You still don’t understand.”

Michael’s eyes narrowed.

“Understand what?”

Andrew walked into the room.

“That this was never about Daniel.”

Daniel looked confused.

“What?”

Andrew smiled.

“You thought you were the victim.”

A pause.

“You weren’t.”

Michael felt anger rising.

“Then who are you working for?”

Andrew looked at the security cameras.

Then answered:

“Your father.”

Nobody spoke.

Michael’s face changed.

“My father is dead.”

“Yes.”

Andrew smiled.

“But his plan wasn’t.”

The room went silent.

Emily whispered:

“That’s impossible.”

Andrew looked at her.

“You know better than anyone.”

Michael turned.

“What does he mean?”

Emily looked terrified.

Andrew continued.

“She wasn’t just Daniel’s assistant.”

Michael looked at Emily.

“What?”

Andrew smiled.

“She was Sarah’s protection.”

The truth hit like a wave.

Emily looked at Michael.

“I was trying to protect Noah.”

Michael didn’t know what to believe anymore.

Everyone had lied.

Everyone had hidden something.

Then Andrew pulled out a small device.

Frank moved.

“Don’t.”

Andrew pressed a button.

The entire building alarm activated.

Red lights flashed.

Michael’s phone rang.

A hospital number.

He answered.

The voice on the other end was panicked.

“Mr. Carter…”

His blood turned cold.

“What happened?”

A pause.

Then:

“Your son is missing.”

Michael stopped.

The world disappeared.

“What?”

“The room was locked.”

“No.”

“We don’t know how, but someone took him.”

Michael dropped the phone.

Nobody spoke.

Daniel looked at Andrew.

“You.”

Andrew smiled.

“Not me.”

Michael grabbed his jacket.

“Where is my son?”

Andrew looked at him.

Then said:

“Ask the person who taught you that power mattered more than family.”

Michael turned slowly.

May you like

Because he already knew.

Victoria.
