Chapter 4 - THE SECRET NO ONE WANTED FOUND

Michael didn’t move.
For five years, he had avoided talking about Sarah Carter.
His wife.
Noah’s mother.
The woman who died before she could hold her son.
The official story was simple.
A tragic allergic reaction.
A medical accident.
But now…
Michael looked at the blanket.
Lavender.
The same scent.
The same trigger.
“No.”
The word came out like a warning.
Emily watched him carefully.
“Mr. Carter…”
“Who knew?”
Everyone looked at him.
“Who knew about Sarah?”
Frank answered immediately.
“Family. Close friends. A few employees.”
Michael’s face darkened.
“Then we find every single one.”
The paramedics rushed Noah toward the ambulance.
Emily followed.
Michael stopped her.
“You’re coming too.”
She looked surprised.
“Me?”
“You started this.”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“I noticed it.”
A pause.
“But someone caused it.”
Michael stared.
“Then help me find who.”
For the first time, Emily saw something different in him.
Not power.
Not anger.
Pain.
The ambulance doors closed.
The sirens screamed into the storm.
Michael stood outside his mansion watching his son disappear into the darkness.
Then his phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
A distorted voice spoke.
“Your son should have died tonight.”
Michael froze.
“Who is this?”
A quiet laugh.
“You really don’t remember me?”
The call ended.
Michael stared at the phone.
Frank approached.
“Problem?”
Michael looked toward the road where the ambulance vanished.
“Yes.”
May you like
His voice became cold.
“Someone just admitted they tried to kill my son.”
