Chapter 4 - THE LOCKED BEDROOM

Adeline reached the second floor first.
The bedroom door was slightly open.
That was impossible.
Nico always locked it.
She pushed it slowly.
Inside, everything looked normal.
Too normal.
The bed was made.
The curtains were closed.
Nothing appeared missing.
Then she noticed something.
A drawer.
Half open.
Adeline walked closer.
Inside was a small bag.
She opened it.
Her blood ran cold.
Pictures.
Documents.
Notes.
All about Nico.
His medical history.
His weaknesses.
His daily schedule.
Someone had been collecting information.
Not helping him.
Studying him.
A voice suddenly came behind her.
âWhat are you doing?â
Adeline turned.
Camille stood at the doorway.
Perfect makeup.
Perfect smile.
No emotion.
âI heard something.â
Camille walked closer.
âYou shouldnât enter this room.â
Adeline held up the bag.
âThen explain this.â
For the first time, Camilleâs expression changed.
Only for a second.
But Adeline saw it.
Fear.
Then it disappeared.
âYouâre confused.â
âNo.â
âYouâre new here.â
âI know what I saw.â
Camille stepped closer.
âYou need to understand something.â
Her voice became softer.
âThis family has rules.â
Adeline stared at her.
âRules?â
âYes.â
Camille smiled.
âPeople who donât understand them usually donât stay long.â
The threat was clear.
Adeline did not move.
âIâm not the previous nurses.â
Camille tilted her head.
âNo.â
A pause.
âYouâre worse.â
That night, Adeline copied every file.
She sent them to a hidden account.
Because she knew one thing.
If someone powerful wanted Nico weakâŠ
they would not stop because she asked nicely.
The next morning, something happened.
Nicoâs condition suddenly got worse.
He could barely stay awake.
The doctor was called.
Everyone blamed the accident.
Everyone except Adeline.
Because she knew.
This was not the accident.
Someone was doing this.
And now she had proof.
But before she could tell NicoâŠ
Camille walked into the room holding a document.
âNico.â
He looked up weakly.
âWhat is it?â
Camille smiled.
âSomething you need to sign.â
Adeline froze.
Because she recognized the document.
May you like
It was not medical paperwork.
It was a transfer of control.
