Chapter 15 - THE PERSON WHO STOOD BESIDE HIM

The police arrived before Victor could leave.

This time, there was no escape.

The evidence was everywhere.

The recordings.

The documents.

The financial records.

Everything.

The people who believed Nico was finished had made one mistake.

They underestimated the people who refused to abandon him.

Months later, the Alfieri estate felt different.

The silence was gone.

The fear was gone.

For the first time in years, the house felt like a home.

Nico continued therapy every morning.

Some days were difficult.

Some days were painful.

But he kept going.

Because he finally understood something.

Strength was never about standing on your feet.

It was about standing up after life tried to break you.

One afternoon, Adeline found him practicing alone.

“You’re supposed to have someone helping you.”

Nico smiled.

“I know.”

“So why didn’t you call?”

He looked at her.

“Because sometimes I need to prove to myself that I can.”

She nodded.

“I understand.”

A quiet moment passed.

Then Nico said:

“You saved my life.”

Adeline shook her head.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“You saved yourself.”

He smiled.

“Maybe.”

A few months later, Wes’s surgery was successful.

Adeline finally had the chance to breathe.

The nightmare was over.

But one thing remained.

The lesson everyone learned from the Alfieri house.

People often notice when someone loses money.

They notice when someone loses power.

They notice when someone loses control.

But they rarely notice when someone loses hope.

Nico had lost almost everything.

His health.

His trust.

The people he loved.

But one person saw him differently.

Not as a powerful man.

Not as a damaged man.

Just as a human being.

And that was why the quiet nurse in blue scrubs became the person who changed his life forever.

May you like

Because when everyone else watched Nico Alfieri fall

she was the only one who reached out and helped him stand again.
