Chapter 14 - THE NIGHT EVERYTHING ENDED

Julian placed a folder on the table.

Nico stared at it.

“What is this?”

“The original accident report.”

Nico frowned.

“I already saw it.”

“No.”

Julian smiled.

“You saw the edited version.”

Adeline felt a chill.

Julian continued.

“Your father had enemies.”

Nico looked angry.

“My father is dead.”

“Yes.”

Julian paused.

“And that’s why they thought you were next.”

Nico opened the folder.

Inside were photos.

Evidence.

Records.

Names.

Then one thing caught his attention.

A signature.

His uncle’s signature.

The same uncle everyone believed was gone.

Adeline whispered:

“Someone inside the family planned this.”

Julian nodded.

“Yes.”

Nico looked at him.

“Why are you telling me?”

Julian smiled sadly.

“Because I’m tired.”

“Tired of what?”

“Protecting people who don’t deserve protection.”

Suddenly, the mansion lights went out.

Again.

Everyone froze.

Nico looked toward the door.

“Not again.”

A sound came from upstairs.

Footsteps.

But this time

there was no panic.

Because Nico was ready.

Adeline grabbed her phone.

Edna locked the door.

Julian looked nervous.

Then Nico noticed something.

Julian was not afraid of the person coming.

He was afraid of what they would reveal.

The door opened.

A man stepped inside.

Older.

Gray hair.

Cold eyes.

Alive.

Nico stopped breathing.

Because the man standing there was supposed to have died six years ago.

His uncle.

Victor Alfieri.

Victor smiled.

“Hello, Nico.”

Nobody moved.

Nico whispered:

“You’re dead.”

Victor laughed.

“No.”

He looked around the room.

“I was just waiting.”

“For what?”

May you like

Victor’s eyes moved to Adeline.

“For someone brave enough to find the truth.”
