Chapter 5 - The File Daniel Never Wanted Found

Police arrived twenty minutes later.

The wedding became a crime scene.

Nobody cared about the flowers.

Nobody cared about the cake.

Nobody cared about the vows that were supposed to happen.

Emma sat alone in the bridal room.

Holding the second memory card.

Daniel stood outside the door.

“Emma.”

She didn’t answer.

“Please let me explain.”

Finally, she spoke.

“Did you love me?”

Daniel froze.

“Yes.”

“Then why did you lie?”

He had no answer.

Because there was no answer that could make eight years of secrets disappear.

Emma opened the door.

“Tell me everything.”

Daniel entered.

Slowly.

“My father worked for your father.”

Emma looked confused.

“Your father?”

“Yes.”

Daniel took a deep breath.

“My father was involved in the company problems.”

“What problems?”

“Money theft. Illegal deals.”

Emma stared.

“And my father found out?”

Daniel nodded.

“He tried to expose them.”

“Who?”

Daniel looked away.

“My father.”

The room went silent.

Emma felt sick.

“Your father hurt mine?”

Daniel shook his head quickly.

“No.”

“Then what happened?”

Daniel’s voice broke.

“My father planned it.”

Emma froze.

“But Max stopped him.”

“Max was my father’s partner.”

“Then why did my father say Max returned?”

Daniel looked at the memory card.

“Because Max was supposed to be dead.”

Emma’s eyes widened.

“What?”

Daniel looked terrified.

“Someone tried to kill him.”

“Who?”

Daniel whispered:

“The same person who wanted your father gone.”

Emma looked at him.

“Who?”

Daniel didn’t answer.

Because at that moment…

His phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

A voice came through.

“You should have let her marry you without knowing.”

Daniel’s face changed.

“Who is this?”

The voice laughed.

“You know exactly who.”

The call ended.

Emma looked at him.

“Daniel?”

He slowly lowered the phone.

Then he said:

“The person who destroyed your family…”

May you like

A pause.

“…is standing inside this wedding building right now.”
