Chapter 4 - The Stranger From The Past
The man walked slowly into the wedding hall.
Nobody stopped him.
Not security.
Not the wedding staff.
Not even Emma’s family.
Because there was something about him.
Something that made people hesitate.
He looked at Daniel.
“You should have destroyed that necklace.”
Daniel’s face became cold.
“Leave.”
Emma looked between them.
“You know him?”
The stranger smiled.
“Yes.”
He looked at Emma.
“I knew your father.”
Emma felt a knot in her stomach.
“Who are you?”
The man removed his sunglasses.
“Max.”
The name hit her.
The same name her father mentioned.
Max.
The man who had somehow returned.
Daniel stepped in front of Emma.
“Stay away from her.”
Max laughed.
“Still protecting her?”
Emma looked at Daniel.
“Protecting me from what?”
Nobody answered.
Max walked closer.
“Emma, your father spent years trying to expose the truth.”
He looked at Daniel.
“And Daniel spent years trying to fix what he did.”
Emma’s eyes widened.
“What he did?”
Daniel shook his head.
“Emma, don’t listen to him.”
Max smiled.
“That’s what he always does.”
Emma felt anger rising.
“Someone explain what is happening!”
Max reached into his jacket.
He pulled out an old photograph.
He handed it to her.
Emma looked down.
The picture showed three people.
Her father.
Max.
And Daniel.
Standing together.
Years before she ever met Daniel.
On the back of the photo was a handwritten message.
Emma recognized her father’s handwriting.
“Trust the one who stays silent.”
Her hands shook.
“What does this mean?”
Max looked at Daniel.
“It means your fiancé knows why your father disappeared.”
Daniel looked broken.
“I was trying to protect you.”
Emma whispered:
“From what?”
Daniel looked at her.
“From the truth.”
Before Emma could answer…
A loud crash came from outside.
Everyone turned.
The wedding windows shattered.
People screamed.
Daniel immediately pushed Emma down.
Glass fell everywhere.
And when Emma looked up…
She saw Daniel standing over her.
Protecting her.
But Max was gone.
May you like
And on the floor beside the broken window…
Was another memory card.
