Chapter 11 - The House Full Of Secrets

The old Carter mansion looked exactly the same.

But Emma felt different.

She stood outside the gate.

The place where she spent her childhood.

The place where her father used to cook breakfast.

The place where she believed her family was perfect.

Now…

Every corner held a secret.

Daniel parked behind her.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

Emma looked at him.

“I thought you said you wanted to protect me.”

“I do.”

“Then help me find the truth.”

Daniel sighed.

“I’m coming with you.”

They entered together.

The house was dark.

Empty.

But someone had been there recently.

Emma noticed something on the table.

A photograph.

She picked it up.

It was her father.

Max.

Daniel.

And another man.

Her uncle.

Richard Carter.

The man everyone thought had died ten years ago.

Daniel looked at the picture.

“He was alive.”

Emma stared.

“My family hid this?”

Before Daniel could answer…

A voice came from upstairs.

“You finally came.”

Emma froze.

Max stood at the top of the stairs.

No gun.

No anger.

Only exhaustion.

Daniel immediately stepped forward.

“Stay away from her.”

Max ignored him.

He looked at Emma.

“You deserve the truth.”

Emma laughed bitterly.

“Everyone says that.”

Max walked down slowly.

“But I’m the only one who can prove it.”

He handed her a folder.

Inside were documents.

Emails.

Photos.

Bank records.

Emma looked through them.

Then she saw something that made her stomach turn.

A transfer document.

Signed by Richard Carter.

And approved by…

Sarah Carter.

Her mother.

Emma looked up.

“No.”

Max nodded.

“Yes.”

“My mother worked with him?”

“She did.”

Daniel looked angry.

“You’re lying.”

Max turned toward him.

“You still don’t know everything.”

Emma looked at Max.

“Then explain.”

Max sat down.

“Your father discovered Richard was stealing money from the company.”

Emma looked at the documents.

“He was trying to stop him.”

“Yes.”

“Then why did everyone think my father was the problem?”

“Because Richard created the evidence.”

Emma felt sick.

“But my mother signed these papers.”

Max became quiet.

“That’s the part nobody told you.”

“What part?”

Max looked at her.

“Your mother didn’t betray your father.”

A pause.

“She was forced to choose.”

Emma frowned.

“Choose what?”

Max opened another file.

Inside was an old letter.

Written by Sarah.

The first line made Emma’s heart stop.

“If anything happens to me, protect Emma from Richard.”

She looked up.

“My mother knew?”

Max nodded.

“She knew Richard was dangerous.”

“Then why didn’t she tell me?”

“Because Richard threatened you.”

Emma went silent.

Then Daniel noticed something.

A small camera hidden in the corner of the room.

Someone was watching them.

Daniel pulled Emma back.

“Down!”

A bullet shattered the window.

Max grabbed Emma.

Everyone fell to the floor.

The attack lasted only seconds.

Then silence returned.

Emma looked around.

On the wall behind them…

A message had been written.

May you like

Four words.

“YOUR FATHER LIED.”
