Chapter 11 - The Sterling Bloodline

Arthur carried Bella down twenty flights of stairs.
I followed, barely able to breathe.
Paramedics treated her for smoke exposure.
She survived.
But the attack proved the conspiracy was larger than Richard and Vanessa.
Margaret Sterling arrived at the hospital before the press.
Arthur confronted her in a private room.
She did not deny the video.
Instead, she sat calmly and removed her gloves.
“Evelyn was going to destroy everything your grandfather built.”
“She was my wife.”
“She was weak.”
Arthur’s face changed.
I had never seen hatred become so quiet.
Margaret admitted that Sterling Heavy Industries had secretly sold military guidance systems through foreign intermediaries for decades.
Evelyn discovered the operation.
She planned to expose it.
Richard ordered the crash.
Vanessa drove the second vehicle.
When Evelyn survived, Margaret finished the job at the hospital.
“And Marcus?” Arthur asked.
“Your father recruited him.”
“Where is Richard now?”
Margaret smiled.
“You still think your father is in charge.”
Arthur stared at her.
Margaret leaned closer.
“I am.”
The old woman had controlled everything.
The board.
The contracts.
The police commissioner.
The prosecutor.
Even Richard’s disappearance.
Vanessa had been useful, but never powerful.
Margaret then revealed her final weapon.
Arthur was not Richard’s biological son.
If proven, the board could remove him under an old family trust provision.
“You built your identity around a name that was never yours,” Margaret said.
Arthur remained silent.
She looked at Bella.
“And neither is she.”
The room froze.
Margaret claimed Bella was not Arthur’s daughter.
She produced a DNA report.
Arthur looked at the pages.
His hands began to shake.
Bella watched him carefully.
“Daddy?”
He looked at her.
For one terrible second, he hesitated.
Bella saw it.
May you like
She pulled her hand away.
