Chapter 6 - THE PAPER THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

I couldn’t breathe.
I read the first page again.
Then again.
Because my brain refused to accept what my eyes were seeing.
“Temporary parental authority transfer.”
My name.
Julian’s name.
Leo’s name.
But my signature…
Was there.
A signature I didn’t remember making.
“What is this?”
Julian’s face went pale.
“Give me that.”
I pulled the document away.
“No.”
“Clara.”
“No.”
My voice shook.
“You forged my signature.”
He immediately became defensive.
“I didn’t.”
“Then explain.”
He didn’t.
That was the problem.
Julian always had an answer.
Always had a story.
But now?
Nothing.
“What was this for?”
“It was paperwork.”
“What paperwork?”
“Medical decisions.”
I stared at him.
“Medical decisions?”
“Yes.”
My hands tightened.
“While Leo was sick?”
Silence.
The answer came before he spoke.
“Yes.”
A horrible thought entered my mind.
“What did you sign?”
He looked away.
“Julian.”
“I was trying to protect him.”
“No.”
I stepped back.
“You were trying to control everything.”
His voice became louder.
“You don’t understand the pressure I was under.”
I looked at him.
“The pressure?”
“Yes.”
“You mean watching your son fight for his life?”
His face changed.
“No.”
I froze.
“What?”
He swallowed.
“I mean everything.”
Everything.
The house.
The money.
The future.
Not Leo.
Not us.
Everything else.
I walked out.
I didn’t argue.
Because suddenly I understood something.
Julian wasn’t just selfish.
He was someone who believed rules didn’t apply to him.
And people like that always made mistakes.
The next day, Daniel reviewed the document.
His expression became serious.
“Clara.”
“What?”
“This is worse than we thought.”
“Why?”
“Because this wasn’t created for medical decisions.”
I looked at him.
“Then what was it for?”
Daniel pointed to one section.
“Financial authority.”
My stomach dropped.
“He used Leo’s medical crisis…”
“To gain control over your assets.”
I closed my eyes.
The pain was overwhelming.
My husband used my son’s illness as an opportunity.
The worst moment of my life…
Was his opening.
Then Daniel found something else.
A small note attached to the document.
A handwritten message.
From Julian.
I read it.
Only one sentence.
And it made my blood run cold.
“Once Clara is emotionally unstable, the transfer will be easier.”
I stared at those words.
Emotionally unstable.
That was his plan.
Break me.
Make me look irrational.
Make everyone believe I couldn’t make decisions.
Then take everything.
My home.
My money.
My life.
I looked at Daniel.
“What happens now?”
He closed the folder.
“Now?”
He looked at me.
“Now we stop defending.”
“Then what do we do?”
Daniel’s expression hardened.
“We expose him.”
That night, I returned to the house one last time.
Not to leave.
Not to beg.
To watch.
From the hallway, I heard Julian talking on the phone.
I stopped.
“You’re running out of time.”
A pause.
Then Julian whispered:
“I know.”
Another pause.
“I’ll handle Clara.”
My heart stopped.
Then he said the words I would never forget.
“No one can know what really happened to Leo.”
I stood frozen in the dark hallway.
Because I finally understood.
The house.
The money.
Chloe.
They were only pieces of a much bigger secret.
And Julian was terrified of one thing.
Not losing me.
May you like
Not losing the house.
The truth coming out.
