Chapter 12 - THE CONFESSION

Nobody spoke.
Chloe stood in the doorway.
Her face was pale.
She looked like she had been crying.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
Her voice shook.
“I need to tell you the truth.”
I didn’t move.
“Another truth?”
She flinched.
“I deserve that.”
“Yes, you do.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Why are you here?”
Chloe looked at me.
“Because Julian is going to destroy everything.”
I almost laughed.
“He already did.”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“You don’t understand.”
“Then explain.”
She took a deep breath.
“I was the one who helped him access Leo’s records.”
The room went silent.
I felt like someone had punched me.
“You.”
Tears filled her eyes.
“I didn’t know what he was really doing.”
“You helped him.”
“Yes.”
“While I was sitting beside my son?”
“I know.”
“No.”
My voice cracked.
“You don’t know.”
I stepped closer.
“You weren’t there when doctors told me they couldn’t save him.”
Chloe started crying.
“You’re right.”
“You weren’t there when I held his hand.”
“I know.”
“You weren’t there when I said goodbye.”
“I know.”
“Then don’t tell me you know.”
Silence.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Then Chloe whispered:
“I thought I was helping him prove something.”
“What?”
“That you weren’t strong enough.”
The words hurt.
Not because they were true.
Because they showed how much Julian had poisoned everyone around him.
“He told me you were falling apart.”
I looked away.
Of course.
That was his plan.
“He said you were obsessed with Leo’s illness.”
My eyes filled with anger.
“I was his mother.”
“I know.”
“He said you couldn’t handle reality.”
I laughed bitterly.
“Reality?”
I looked at her.
“The reality was that I was the only one fighting for him.”
Chloe covered her face.
“I’m sorry.”
I believed she was sorry.
But sorry didn’t erase what happened.
Then Daniel received a message.
He read it.
And his expression changed.
“What?”
He looked at me.
“Clara…”
“What happened?”
He turned the phone around.
A court notification.
Julian had filed an emergency motion.
I read the title.
“Request for temporary control of marital assets.”
My heart sank.
“He’s trying again.”
Daniel nodded.
“But this time…”
“What?”
“He’s claiming you are mentally unstable.”
I stared at the document.
The same plan.
The same lie.
Break me.
Silence me.
Take everything.
I slowly stood up.
“No.”
Daniel looked at me.
“What?”
I folded the papers.
“He spent months trying to convince everyone I was weak.”
I looked at Julian’s name.
“He forgot one thing.”
“What?”
I picked up my coat.
“I’m a mother who lost her child.”
My voice became steady.
“And there is nothing more dangerous than someone who has already lost everything.”
I walked toward the door.
“Where are you going?”
I looked back.
“To court.”
Because this time…
I wasn’t fighting to save my marriage.
I wasn’t fighting to save my house.
I was fighting to protect my son’s memory.
And Julian was about to learn…
May you like
The woman he thought he destroyed…
Was the woman who was going to bring him down.
