Chapter 8 - THE PERSON BEHIND THE MASK

Daniel reached Noah’s room in seconds.

The door was open.

His heart stopped.

“Noah?”

The room was empty.

The window was broken.

Cold air filled the room.

Maya arrived behind him.

“Oh my God
”

Daniel looked around desperately.

Then he saw something on the floor.

A small toy airplane.

Noah’s favorite toy.

Beside it was a note.

Daniel picked it up.

The handwriting was clear.

STOP LOOKING FOR THE TRUTH.

His hands tightened.

“Find him.”

The entire mansion went into lockdown.

Security searched every hallway.

Every entrance.

Every room.

But Noah was gone.

An hour later, Marcus found something.

“Daniel.”

His voice was serious.

“We found a vehicle leaving the property.”

Daniel turned.

“Whose?”

Marcus hesitated.

“Lauren’s.”

The room became silent.

Daniel closed his eyes.

He didn’t want to believe it.

But every road kept leading back to her.

Meanwhile, Noah opened his eyes.

He was inside an abandoned building.

His hands were tied loosely.

Not enough to hurt him.

Enough to scare him.

A man stood in front of him.

The same man from the footage.

Victor Hale.

Noah stared at him.

“You were there.”

Victor looked surprised.

“You remember me?”

Noah nodded.

“You scared my mommy.”

Victor’s expression changed.

For the first time, his confidence disappeared.

“What did your mother tell you?”

Noah looked away.

“She told me if something bad happened
”

He swallowed.

“Find Dad.”

Victor stepped closer.

“Where did she hide it?”

Noah stayed quiet.

Victor sighed.

“You’re smarter than people think.”

Then Noah looked up.

“She knew you were coming.”

Victor froze.

“What?”

“She said you would ask me that.”

The little boy smiled weakly.

“And she said you would be scared.”

Back at the mansion, Daniel received a call.

A hidden number.

He answered immediately.

“Where is my son?”

A deep voice replied.

“You’re asking the wrong question.”

Daniel’s anger exploded.

“Who are you?”

The voice became colder.

“You should ask why Emily trusted your enemy more than she trusted you.”

Daniel froze.

“What did you say?”

The call ended.

Then a message appeared on his phone.

A photo.

Noah.

Alive.

And standing beside Victor Hale.

Daniel stared at the screen.

Because behind Noah

May you like

Was another person.

Lauren.
