Chapter 1 - THE FALL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The scream came before the crash.
A childâs scream.
A scream so full of fear that every person inside the Ashford mansion froze.
Then came the sound.
A small body hitting cold marble.
The entire house went silent.
Six-year-old Noah Ashford was lying at the bottom of the grand staircase, his tiny hand curled against the floor, his breathing weak and uneven.
For one terrifying second, nobody moved.
Then Lauren Ashford ran down the stairs.
Not to help him.
Not to hold him.
To control the scene.
âYou let him fall!â
Her voice echoed through the massive marble foyer.
She pointed directly at Maya Collins, the familyâs longtime maid, who had just rushed forward and lifted Noah into her arms.
Mayaâs face turned pale.
âWhat? No, Mrs. Ashford, I didnâtââ
âYou were the only person near him!â Lauren snapped. âEveryone saw you standing there!â
âThatâs not true,â Maya said, her voice shaking. âI came after I heard him scream.â
Lauren stepped closer.
âYou expect everyone to believe that?â
Maya looked down at Noah.
The little boyâs eyes were half open.
He was scared.
Confused.
But he was still conscious.
âNoah,â Maya whispered. âCan you hear me?â
The boy slowly moved his fingers.
His lips trembled.
âMayaâŠâ
âIâm here, sweetheart. Tell me what happened.â
The entire foyer held its breath.
Lauren crossed her arms.
Waiting.
Watching.
Because she believed a six-year-old boy wouldnât be able to ruin her plan.
âWhat happened, Noah?â Maya asked gently.
The boyâs eyes moved toward Lauren.
His breathing became faster.
Then, with all the strength he had left, Noah lifted one shaking hand.
Everyone followed his finger.
Straight toward Lauren.
âSheâŠâ
His voice was barely louder than a whisper.
âShe pushed me.â
The room exploded into silence.
Laurenâs face changed instantly.
For a moment, the perfect smile disappeared.
âWhat did you say?â
Noah closed his eyes.
âShe pushed meâŠâ
Lauren stepped back.
âNo. No, heâs confused. He fell. He hit his head. He doesnât know what heâs saying.â
Maya held Noah tighter.
âHe knows exactly what happened.â
Laurenâs eyes narrowed.
âYouâre just protecting him because youâre the one who caused this.â
Before Maya could answer, the front doors opened.
Everyone turned.
Daniel Ashford walked into the mansion.
The billionaire businessman stopped immediately.
His eyes went from the broken vase near the staircaseâŠ
To the blood on the marble floorâŠ
To his son lying in Mayaâs arms.
âSomeone tell me what happened.â
Nobody spoke.
Then Lauren rushed toward him.
âDaniel, thank God youâre here.â
She grabbed his arm.
âMaya pushed Noah down the stairs.â
Daniel looked at Maya.
Then at Noah.
His expression changed.
Because his son reached weakly toward him.
âDadâŠâ
Daniel dropped to his knees.
âIâm here, buddy.â
Noah grabbed his fatherâs hand.
âSheâs lying.â
Daniel looked up.
At Lauren.
For the first time in years, doubt appeared in his eyes.
And Lauren noticed.
She knew something had changed.
Because Daniel no longer looked like a husband defending his wife.
He looked like a father searching for the truth.
Then Maya slowly stood up.
âThereâs a camera.â
Everyone turned.
Above the staircase was a small black security camera.
Maya pointed at it.
âThe whole thing was recorded.â
Lauren stopped breathing.
Daniel looked at the security camera.
âGet the footage.â
And for the first time that nightâŠ
Lauren looked afraid.
Because she knew exactly what that camera would show.
May you like
But she also knew something nobody else did.
The footage had already been changed.
