Chapter 7 - THE SECRET ROOM ABOVE THE BALLROOM

The footsteps echoed through the second floor hallway.
Fast.
Desperate.
Someone was running.
Inés moved through the corridor with her security team behind her.
“Block the exits,” she ordered.
Nobody escaped.
Not tonight.
The luxury hotel that had been filled with celebration minutes ago had become the scene of a family betrayal.
A betrayal involving money.
Power.
And a child whose identity had been stolen.
Inés reached the end of the hallway.
A door slammed shut.
She stopped.
The sign on the door made her heart beat faster.
PRIVATE ARCHIVES.
The hotel’s old records room.
A place only a few executives had access to.
She slowly opened the door.
Inside, someone was searching through files.
The person turned around.
And everyone froze.
It was not Bárbara.
It was Leandro’s father’s former lawyer.
Victor Salazar.
The same man who had disappeared after the death of Leandro’s father six years earlier.
“What are you doing here?” Leandro asked.
Victor looked at him calmly.
“I’m fixing a mistake.”
“A mistake?”
Leandro stepped forward.
“You helped them.”
Victor sighed.
“You have no idea what really happened.”
Inés watched carefully.
People who were caught usually denied everything.
Victor wasn’t denying anything.
That worried her more.
“What were you looking for?” Inés asked.
Victor looked at the files in his hands.
“The original birth records.”
Everyone became silent.
Leandro’s face changed.
“Why?”
Victor looked at him.
“Because the baby you think disappeared…”
He paused.
“…was never missing.”
The words hit everyone.
Noa held her mother’s hand tighter.
“What does that mean?”
Victor looked at the little girl.
“It means someone wanted everyone to believe that child was gone.”
Leandro stepped closer.
“Who?”
Victor looked toward the ballroom below.
“Someone who knew that baby was the only thing standing between them and a fortune.”
A cold silence filled the room.
Then Victor pulled out an old file.
Inside was a photograph.
A newborn baby.
A hospital bracelet.
And a name.
Leandro reached for it.
His hands started shaking.
Because the name on the document belonged to someone he knew.
Someone standing downstairs.
Someone who had spent years pretending to help him.
May you like
Someone who had been hiding the truth from the beginning.
To be continued…
