Chapter 14 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW EVERY SECRET

Nobody moved.
Leandro stared at the security guard.
“My mother is dead.”
The guard looked uncomfortable.
“I know what the records say.”
“Then why did you say her name?”
“Because she gave us identification.”
Inés immediately took control.
“Bring her here.”
Minutes later, the ballroom doors opened.
A woman entered.
Older.
Tired.
But with the same eyes Leandro remembered from childhood.
His entire world stopped.
“Mom?”
The woman looked at him.
Tears filled her eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
Leandro stepped back.
“No.”
His voice cracked.
“You can’t be here.”
The woman lowered her head.
“My name is Clara.”
Nobody spoke.
Not even Bárbara.
Because everyone knew.
The dead had returned.
Again.
Inés watched carefully.
A person appearing after years of hiding was never a coincidence.
Especially not tonight.
“Why did you come here?”
Clara looked at Noa.
And everyone noticed.
Her expression changed.
Not fear.
Recognition.
“I came because I know who she is.”
Inés immediately stepped in front of Noa.
“Stay away from my daughter.”
Clara stopped.
“I’m not here to hurt her.”
“Then explain.”
Clara looked at Leandro.
“Your father made mistakes.”
Leandro laughed bitterly.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
“No.”
Clara’s voice became emotional.
“He made choices.”
The room became silent.
“What choices?”
Clara looked at Mariana.
Then at Jimena.
Then Bárbara.
“Six years ago, when Mariana’s baby was born, your father discovered the inheritance problem.”
Leandro listened.
“He knew the child would control everything.”
“So he tried to remove the child?”
Clara nodded.
“But he couldn’t.”
“Why?”
“Because Mariana escaped.”
Everyone looked at Mariana.
“And then?”
Clara looked at Inés.
“Then they found another solution.”
Inés already knew.
“No.”
Clara nodded.
“They placed the baby with someone they believed they could control.”
The room became silent.
Leandro looked at Inés.
“You?”
Inés felt sick.
“I never knew.”
Clara nodded.
“I believe you.”
“Then why?”
“Because your kindness was the one thing they couldn’t predict.”
Those words hurt more than anything.
Because Inés realized something terrifying.
She wasn’t chosen because she was trusted.
She was chosen because someone thought she was easy to manipulate.
But they were wrong.
Because the little girl they tried to hide had grown into the person who exposed them.
Noa.
Then Clara pulled out a final document.
“This is the original birth record.”
Everyone gathered around.
Leandro looked at the paper.
His hands shook.
Because the truth was finally there.
The real name.
The real mother.
The real inheritance.
But before he could read it…
A gunshot echoed through the hotel.
Everyone screamed.
The document fell to the floor.
And when Inés looked up…
May you like
Clara was gone.
To be continued…
