Chapter 4 - THE PERSON HIDING IN THE SHADOWS

Security alarms filled the hotel.

Guests were ordered to remain inside.

Nobody could leave.

Nobody could enter.

Inés immediately took control.

“Lock every exit.”

The security team moved quickly.

Leandro watched her.

“You really think someone here stole those documents?”

“I know someone did.”

“How?”

“Because only three people knew where that folder was.”

She looked at him.

“You.”

“The lawyer.”

“And me.”

Leandro’s face tightened.

“So someone close to us.”

“Yes.”

The investigation began.

But Inés noticed something strange.

Jimena wasn’t worried about the missing documents.

She was worried about Noa.

Every few seconds, her eyes moved toward the little girl.

Why?

That question bothered Inés.

She approached her daughter.

“Noa, did you ever see that woman before tonight?”

Noa shook her head.

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

The girl hesitated.

Then quietly said:

“She looked at me like she knew me.”

Inés felt a chill.

“What do you mean?”

“When she saw me point at her belly…”

Noa lowered her voice.

“She didn’t look angry.”

“She looked scared.”

Meanwhile, Leandro confronted Jimena privately.

“I want the truth.”

“I told you, I can explain.”

“Then explain why a missing child report connects to you.”

Jimena started crying.

“There are things you don’t understand.”

“Then help me understand.”

She looked at him.

“I was trying to protect someone.”

“Who?”

Jimena said nothing.

That silence destroyed whatever trust remained.

Later that night, Inés reviewed old hotel records.

And she found something impossible.

A woman had entered the dressing room before Jimena.

A woman wearing a nurse’s uniform.

The timestamp was clear.

Thirty minutes before the event.

The woman had stayed inside for eight minutes.

Then disappeared.

Inés zoomed in.

Her face became visible.

And when Inés recognized her, her blood ran cold.

Because the woman was not a stranger.

She was someone connected to the Montalbán family.

Someone everyone thought was dead.
