Chapter 1 - THE BELLY THAT DISAPPEARED

“Mom… that woman isn’t pregnant.”
The words came from a seven-year-old girl.
And in less than five seconds, they destroyed the most powerful family in the city.
The ballroom of the Palacio de Aranda Hotel went completely silent.
Three hundred guests.
Business executives.
Politicians.
Old-money families.
Everyone stopped moving.
A waiter froze beside a table of champagne glasses. A musician lowered his hands from the piano. Even the cameras from the local news station turned toward the little girl standing near the entrance.
Noa Valcárcel wasn’t crying.
She wasn’t scared.
She was simply pointing across the room.
Straight at Jimena Alcázar.
The woman everyone believed was carrying the next heir to the Montalbán empire.
Jimena stood beneath a massive crystal chandelier, wearing a custom-made ivory gown that cost more than most people earned in a year.
One hand rested protectively over her huge eight-month pregnant belly.
The other held a glass of sparkling water.
She looked perfect.
Elegant.
Powerful.
Untouchable.
At least, that was what everyone believed.
Only thirty seconds earlier, her husband Leandro Montalbán had been smiling proudly on stage.
“Tonight,” he had announced, “we celebrate not only our family’s future, but the arrival of the next generation of Montalbán leadership.”
The crowd had applauded.
Because everyone knew what that meant.
The baby Jimena carried would inherit a fortune.
A piece of one of the largest business empires in the country.
Millions of dollars.
Properties.
Stocks.
Influence.
A future built before the child had even taken its first breath.
But now a little girl had just said the one thing nobody expected.
“That woman has no baby.”
Leandro slowly turned around.
At first, he looked confused.
Then angry.
“What did you say?”
Noa moved closer to her mother, Inés Valcárcel, but she didn’t lower her eyes.
“I saw her take it off.”
The entire room reacted at once.
“What?”
“She’s lying.”
“Who is this child?”
“Someone stop this.”
Jimena’s face changed instantly.
The confidence disappeared.
The smile vanished.
For the first time that night, she looked afraid.
Her older sister Bárbara noticed it.
And that was the moment Inés knew something was wrong.
Because a person who was falsely accused would usually become angry.
But a guilty person became desperate.
Bárbara stepped forward.
“This is ridiculous.”
Her voice was sharp enough to cut through the whispers.
“A child is confused. Someone needs to remove them before they ruin this event.”
She looked toward the security team.
“Get them out.”
Two guards started walking forward.
But Inés stepped in front of her daughter.
“Stop.”
The guards hesitated.
Inés didn’t raise her voice.
She didn’t need to.
“I’m the head of security for this hotel.”
The room shifted.
People knew her reputation.
Inés Valcárcel had spent ten years protecting celebrities, politicians, and billionaires who trusted her with their safety.
She wasn’t someone who made accusations without proof.
And she wasn’t someone who allowed anyone to intimidate a child.
She looked at Leandro.
“Before anyone touches my daughter, I want to show everyone what happened.”
Jimena’s eyes widened.
“What are you talking about?”
“The cameras.”
A strange silence followed.
Because everyone suddenly remembered.
The hallway outside the private dressing room was covered by security cameras.
Including the one facing the door where Jimena had changed before entering the ballroom.
Inés pulled out her phone.
Her fingers moved quickly.
The hotel security system appeared on the screen.
“Forty minutes ago,” she said.
“Let’s see what happened.”
The first video appeared.
Jimena entered the private dressing room.
Everyone watched carefully.
She was wearing the same tight dress.
The same large belly.
The same appearance of a woman near the end of pregnancy.
Bárbara stood outside the room.
Waiting.
Watching.
Then twelve minutes passed.
The door opened.
Jimena walked out.
But something was different.
Her dress was looser.
Her posture had changed.
And behind her, Bárbara stepped out carrying a large clothing bag.
A bag that looked strangely heavy.
The ballroom became so quiet that people could hear the recording’s faint footsteps.
Leandro stared at the screen.
His expression slowly changed.
Confusion.
Pain.
Then betrayal.
He looked at Jimena.
“Tell me that isn’t what it looks like.”
Jimena opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
“Leandro…”
“No.”
His voice was colder now.
“Don’t say my name like everything is normal.”
The crowd watched as the powerful businessman who controlled thousands of employees looked completely broken.
Because the woman he trusted most might have been lying to him.
Jimena stepped forward.
“I can explain.”
“Then explain.”
Her lips trembled.
But before she could speak, the Montalbán family lawyer appeared from the crowd.
He carried a thick black folder.
And his face looked serious.
“Mr. Montalbán…”
Leandro turned.
“What is it?”
The lawyer swallowed.
“I reviewed the inheritance documents after seeing the security footage.”
Everyone looked at him.
“What documents?”
“The trust agreement created for the unborn child.”
A chill moved through the room.
The lawyer opened the folder.
“There is a condition that nobody noticed.”
Leandro frowned.
“What condition?”
The lawyer looked at Jimena.
Then Bárbara.
Then back at Leandro.
“If the child does not survive before reaching the required age, the company shares will not return to you.”
The room erupted with whispers.
Leandro’s expression changed.
“Then where do they go?”
The lawyer answered quietly.
“To the person Jimena named as the child’s legal guardian.”
A terrible silence followed.
Leandro already knew the answer before the lawyer spoke.
“Who?”
The lawyer looked directly at Bárbara.
“Bárbara Alcázar.”
The world seemed to stop.
Leandro stared at the two sisters.
“You planned this?”
Neither woman answered.
“You were going to fake a pregnancy…”
His voice broke with anger.
“…and use a child who doesn’t even exist to take my company?”
Jimena started crying.
But nobody moved to comfort her.
Because everyone in that room was beginning to understand.
This wasn’t just a fake pregnancy.
It was a carefully planned betrayal.
A crime built around greed.
A family secret hidden behind expensive clothes and fake smiles.
Leandro stepped back.
“I trusted you.”
Jimena looked down.
And that silence hurt him more than any confession.
Everyone thought the truth was finally exposed.
Everyone thought the nightmare was over.
But then…
Noa grabbed her mother’s sleeve.
Hard.
Inés looked down.
Her daughter’s face had changed.
The little girl who had fearlessly exposed Jimena was suddenly terrified.
“Noa?”
The child looked toward the dressing room.
“Mom…”
“What did you see?”
Noa swallowed.
“There was something else in that room.”
Inés knelt down.
“What?”
The girl whispered:
“A picture.”
“What kind of picture?”
“A baby.”
The entire room became quiet again.
Noa looked at Jimena.
Then Bárbara.
Then whispered the words that would change everything.
“The baby in the picture…”
Her voice shook.
“Wasn’t Jimena’s baby.”
A cold silence fell over everyone.
Because if Noa was telling the truth…
Then the fake pregnancy was only the beginning.
The real secret was still hidden.
May you like
And someone had gone to great lengths to make sure nobody ever found it.
To be continued…
