Chapter 5 - THE GRANDMOTHER’S FINAL DECISION
Lucas couldn’t believe it.
His mother.
The woman who always claimed Sophie was her greatest joy.
He drove straight to the family estate.
Vanessa followed.
Daniel followed.
Everyone knew the truth was about to come out.
When Lucas entered the mansion, his mother Margaret was sitting calmly.
Almost too calmly.
“You found the papers.”
Lucas stopped.
“You knew?”
Margaret looked at Sophie.
“Yes.”
Sophie moved closer to Lucas.
“Grandma?”
Margaret’s expression softened.
But only for a second.
“Sweetheart, this is for the best.”
Lucas felt disgusted.
“For who?”
Margaret stood.
“For this family.”
Lucas shook his head.
“No.”
He pointed toward Sophie.
“This is my family.”
Margaret revealed the reason.
She believed Sophie was the reason Lucas refused to move on after his wife died.
She believed Vanessa could give him a “clean start.”
Lucas stared at her.
“You tried to erase my daughter.”
Margaret looked away.
Then Sophie noticed something.
A photograph on the table.
It showed Vanessa and Margaret together months before the wedding.
