Chapter 8 - THE FATHER WHO REFUSED TO LOSE HIS DAUGHTER

The courtroom was silent.

But I could hear everything.

Every whisper.

Every judgment.

Every person wondering how a successful businessman could end up fighting his own wife for custody of his child.

Beatriz sat across from me.

Perfect appearance.

Perfect expression.

She looked like the victim.

That was her talent.

She could create sympathy before she ever spoke.

Her attorney stood.

“Your Honor, my client is deeply concerned about the emotional stability of the child.”

I almost laughed.

Emotional stability.

The same child who was forced to drag garbage through mud.

The same child who was afraid to speak.

The judge looked at Beatriz.

“Mrs. Alvarez, explain your concerns.”

She lowered her eyes.

“I love my daughter.”

Of course.

Those words.

The easiest words to say.

“But my husband has become unpredictable since returning from Dubai.”

I stared at her.

Unpredictable?

Because I protected my daughter?

She continued.

“He is angry. Emotional. And he has accused me without evidence.”

Her lawyer nodded.

“We believe temporary custody should be granted to my client.”

Temporary custody.

They wanted to remove Isabella from me.

My hands tightened.

Then my attorney stood.

“Your Honor, we have evidence that tells a very different story.”

The judge looked at him.

“What evidence?”

Daniel placed a folder on the table.

“Financial records.”

The room changed.

Beatriz’s expression shifted.

Only for a moment.

But I saw it.

Fear.

Daniel continued.

“Money was transferred from company accounts into private accounts controlled by Mrs. Alvarez.”

Her attorney immediately objected.

“That is unrelated.”

“It is very related.”

Daniel placed another document down.

“And we also have proof that security systems inside the family residence were intentionally disabled.”

The judge looked at Beatriz.

“Mrs. Alvarez?”

She remained silent.

That silence said everything.

Then Daniel revealed the final piece.

“Your Honor, we also have audio recordings.”

Beatriz looked up.

For the first time

She looked worried.

The recording played.

Her own voice filled the courtroom.

“She’s afraid of me.”

A wave of whispers spread.

Then another recording.

“She thinks her father will save her.”

The judge’s expression hardened.

Beatriz’s attorney leaned toward her.

“What else is there?”

She whispered something.

I couldn’t hear it.

But I knew.

She was losing control.

After the hearing ended, Daniel walked beside me.

“This is only the beginning.”

“I know.”

“Be careful.”

I looked at him.

“Why?”

His expression was serious.

“Because people who lose control become dangerous.”

That night, I returned home.

But something felt wrong.

The front door was unlocked.

I immediately reached for my phone.

“Isabella?”

No answer.

I walked inside.

The house was silent.

Too silent.

Then I saw something on the floor.

A piece of paper.

My daughter’s handwriting.

My heart stopped.

I picked it up.

Three words were written.

Dad, help me.

And underneath

May you like

A sentence that made my blood freeze.

Beatriz found out.
