Chapter 6 - THE PERSON HIDING BEHIND MY WIFE

The next forty-eight hours changed everything I thought I knew.

I had spent years believing I understood people.

I believed I could read intentions.

I believed I knew who stood beside me.

I was wrong.

Marcus called me early in the morning.

“I found the man.”

I stood immediately.

“Who is he?”

Silence.

That worried me.

“Marcus.”

Finally, he answered.

“His name is Adrian Vale.”

I froze.

Adrian.

My former business partner.

The man who disappeared two years earlier after losing millions in a failed investment.

“That’s impossible.”

“I thought so too.”

Marcus continued.

“But the evidence is clear.”

I looked at the documents.

Adrian.

The man who once sat beside me.

The man who called me his brother.

The man who smiled while shaking my hand.

“What does he have to do with Beatriz?”

Marcus sent me a file.

“Everything.”

I opened it.

And my stomach turned.

Photos.

Messages.

Meetings.

My wife had been seeing Adrian for months.

The same months she was telling me she missed me.

The same months she was telling Isabella that I was too busy.

I stared at the screen.

Not because of the affair.

That hurt.

But it wasn’t the deepest wound.

The deepest wound was realizing they had used my absence.

My trust.

My daughter’s fear.

All as part of a plan.

That evening, I confronted Beatriz.

But I didn’t tell her everything.

Not yet.

She was sitting in the living room when I walked in.

“We need to talk.”

She looked up.

“About what?”

“About Adrian.”

The color disappeared from her face.

Only for a second.

But I saw it.

“What about him?”

“You tell me.”

She stood.

“I don’t know what you mean.”

I walked closer.

“I think you do.”

Her eyes narrowed.

“Are you spying on me?”

I almost smiled.

Interesting.

Not denial.

An accusation.

“You’re more worried about how I found out than what I found out.”

She said nothing.

Then she changed tactics.

“You’re angry because you’re looking for someone to blame.”

“No.”

I looked at her.

“I’m angry because my daughter was afraid to tell me the truth.”

Her expression softened.

Fake concern.

“Isabella exaggerates.”

I felt my patience disappear.

“Stop saying that.”

She looked surprised.

“Because every time you say it, you reveal exactly what you think of her.”

Silence.

Then Beatriz whispered:

“You don’t understand.”

“Then explain.”

She looked away.

And that was when I realized something.

She wasn’t protecting herself.

She was protecting Adrian.

Before I could say anything else, Isabella appeared at the top of the stairs.

“Dad?”

I turned.

“Yes?”

Her face was pale.

“I remembered something.”

I walked toward her.

“What?”

She held a small envelope.

“I found this in Beatriz’s room.”

My heart started beating faster.

“What is it?”

She handed it to me.

I opened it.

Inside was a document.

A document with my name.

My signature.

And something I had never seen before.

A transfer agreement.

My wife had been preparing to take control of my company.

And at the bottom of the page

Was a date.

The date she planned to make everything happen.

Three days from now.

I looked at Beatriz.

She was standing frozen.

Because she knew.

May you like

The secret was no longer hidden.

The war had officially begun.
