Chapter 5 - THE RECORDING THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The next morning, I made a decision.

I needed proof.

Not because I doubted Isabella.

Never.

But because Beatriz was dangerous.

She knew how to appear innocent.

She knew how to manipulate people.

And if this became a legal battle, emotions wouldn’t be enough.

Facts would.

I contacted a private investigator.

His name was Marcus.

He had worked with my company for years on fraud cases.

When he arrived, I showed him everything.

The disabled cameras.

The financial transfers.

The situation with Isabella.

Marcus listened without interrupting.

Finally, he said:

“Your wife isn’t just hiding something.”

I looked at him.

“She’s building a story.”

“What story?”

“That she’s the victim.”

Those words stayed with me.

Because they were true.

People like Beatriz didn’t just lie.

They created entire realities.

That afternoon, Isabella came into my office.

She looked nervous.

“Dad?”

I turned around.

“Yes?”

“Are you and Beatriz fighting because of me?”

My heart sank.

I immediately walked toward her.

“No.”

“But she said
”

I stopped.

“What did she say?”

Isabella looked down.

“She said if you knew the truth, you would be disappointed.”

I knelt beside her.

“Isabella, look at me.”

She looked up.

“You are never a disappointment.”

A tear rolled down her cheek.

“She said I was difficult.”

I shook my head.

“She was wrong.”

A small smile appeared.

The first real smile I had seen from her since I returned.

But then she whispered something.

Something that changed everything.

“Dad?”

“Yes?”

“There was another thing.”

My stomach tightened.

“What thing?”

“She made me promise not to tell you.”

I stayed quiet.

“What did she make you promise?”

Isabella looked scared.

“She said if I told you, something bad would happen.”

I felt my blood run cold.

“What bad thing?”

She swallowed.

“She said she would make you leave.”

I closed my eyes.

This wasn’t discipline.

This wasn’t parenting.

This was control.

That night, Marcus called me.

“I found something.”

I picked up immediately.

“What?”

“A recording.”

My grip tightened on the phone.

“From where?”

“The terrace.”

My heart stopped.

“The day you came home.”

I stood up.

“Play it.”

There was a pause.

Then I heard Beatriz’s voice.

The same voice I had heard before.

But this time, there was more.

“She’s becoming a problem.”

A second voice answered.

A man.

“Then make sure she doesn’t talk.”

My entire body went cold.

“Who is that?” I asked.

Marcus lowered his voice.

“That’s what I’m trying to find out.”

The recording continued.

Beatriz laughed.

“She thinks her father will save her.”

A pause.

Then the man said:

“And when he finds out?”

Beatriz answered calmly.

“He won’t.”

I stopped breathing.

Then came the sentence that changed everything.

“He’ll lose everything before he understands what happened.”

The recording ended.

I looked at Marcus.

“Find that man.”

“I already started.”

“How long?”

A pause.

“Not long.”

I stared at the dark window.

Because suddenly, this was no longer just about my daughter.

May you like

Someone had been planning against my entire family.

And they had been waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
