Chapter 13 - THE FINAL MOVE

I thought the worst was over.

I was wrong.

That was the mistake I almost made.

I believed once the truth came out, once the evidence was exposed, once the people responsible were finally caught

The nightmare would end.

But some people don’t stop when they lose.

Some people become more dangerous.

Because losing control is the one thing they cannot accept.

The police investigation revealed that Beatriz had tried to contact several witnesses.

Not to apologize.

Not to tell the truth.

To change the story.

She wanted people to believe she was the victim.

She wanted them to believe that I was an angry husband who destroyed his wife’s life.

And the most shocking part?

She almost succeeded.

Because outside our home, Beatriz was still the woman everyone admired.

The charity supporter.

The elegant wife.

The perfect mother.

People saw the expensive clothes.

The beautiful house.

The social events.

They never saw Isabella crying alone.

They never saw the fear in her eyes.

They never saw the little girl dragging garbage through the mud.

That was the difference between a public image and reality.

One was carefully created.

The other was lived.

Marcus called me late one evening.

“We found something else.”

I already knew I wouldn’t like it.

“What now?”

“A backup drive.”

“Where?”

“In Adrian’s old office.”

I sat down.

“What’s on it?”

A pause.

“Everything.”

The word made my stomach tighten.

Marcus continued.

“Emails. Financial records. Private conversations.”

“Between who?”

“Everyone.”

I arrived at his office within an hour.

The files were displayed on the screen.

And there it was.

The entire plan.

Not just taking my company.

Not just controlling my assets.

They had planned to make me disappear from Isabella’s life.

One document caught my attention.

A custody strategy.

A plan to convince the court that I was an absent father.

The irony almost made me laugh.

I spent my entire life working so my daughter could have a better future.

And they planned to use that work against me.

Then I saw the final page.

A handwritten note.

Beatriz’s handwriting.

My hands froze.

Once he loses everything, he will finally understand he needs us.

I stared at those words.

Not because they were cruel.

Because they were delusional.

She truly believed she was teaching me a lesson.

She truly believed destroying my life would bring me closer to her.

That was when I realized something important.

Beatriz didn’t just want money.

She wanted control.

And people who crave control will always keep pushing until someone stops them.

The next morning, I received a message.

From Beatriz.

I need to see Isabella. One last time.

I showed it to Daniel.

He looked concerned.

“Are you going to allow it?”

I looked toward the window.

Outside, Isabella was playing in the garden.

The same garden where she had once dragged those trash bags.

The same place where she had learned fear.

Now she was laughing.

“No.”

Daniel nodded.

“I agree.”

But then another message arrived.

This one changed everything.

If you don’t let me see her, you’ll regret it.

I stared at the screen.

And for the first time in weeks

I felt something I hadn’t felt before.

Fear.

May you like

Not for myself.

For my daughter.
