Chapter 11 - THE BETRAYAL I NEVER EXPECTED

I had spent years building my company.

Every building.

Every contract.

Every employee.

I remembered every step.

Every sacrifice.

I thought I knew the people around me.

I was wrong.

Marcus sent me the information.

The person helping Adrian was not a stranger.

Not a competitor.

Not an outsider.

It was someone who had been with me from the beginning.

My chief financial officer.

Victor.

The man who had handled my accounts for twelve years.

The man who attended family dinners.

The man who called Isabella “little princess.”

I stared at the file.

“No.”

Marcus sighed.

“I wish I was wrong.”

I looked through the evidence.

Hidden transfers.

Secret meetings.

False reports.

Victor had been slowly moving money for months.

And Beatriz had given him access.

The three people I trusted most

Had been standing on the other side.

That night, I went to the office.

I needed answers.

Victor was still there.

Working late.

Just like always.

When he saw me, he smiled.

“Mr. Alvarez.”

I closed the door behind me.

“We need to talk.”

His smile faded.

“About what?”

I placed the documents on his desk.

His face changed.

Only slightly.

But enough.

“You know.”

He looked at the papers.

Then back at me.

“I can explain.”

Those words.

Everyone says those words when they know they’re caught.

“Explain.”

Victor leaned back.

“You were never going to understand.”

I stared at him.

“Understand what?”

“That you were losing control.”

I almost laughed.

“Of my company?”

“Of everything.”

He stood.

“You built an empire, but you forgot the people around you.”

I stepped closer.

“So you decided to steal from me?”

His expression hardened.

“We deserved more.”

We.

That word.

Not I.

We.

“You and Adrian.”

He didn’t answer.

That was enough.

Then I asked the question I needed answered.

“Did you know about Isabella?”

For the first time

Victor looked uncomfortable.

A mistake.

A big one.

“What does that have to do with anything?”

My voice became quiet.

“Everything.”

He looked away.

And I knew.

He knew.

Maybe not every detail.

But enough.

Enough to know my daughter was suffering.

Enough to stay silent.

That was the moment I stopped seeing him as a business partner.

He was just another person who failed my child.

The next morning, legal action began.

Accounts were frozen.

Investigations started.

Adrian was arrested.

Victor was questioned.

And Beatriz

Beatriz finally lost control.

She called me.

“I want to see Isabella.”

I looked at the phone.

“You lost that right.”

“She’s my daughter too.”

I closed my eyes.

“She was your daughter when she was carrying garbage?”

Silence.

“She was your daughter when she was scared to tell me the truth?”

Nothing.

Then her voice changed.

“You’re making a mistake.”

“No.”

I looked at Isabella sitting nearby.

Playing with her toys.

Smiling again.

“You made the mistake.”

I hung up.

But something bothered me.

Because even after everything

I still felt like there was something missing.

May you like

Something Beatriz had not told me.

And I was about to discover it.
