Chapter 13 - THE STANFORD LETTER

A month later, while clearing out old boxes in my home office, I found a faded yellow folder from ten years ago.

Inside was my original acceptance letter from Stanford University.

I held the paper in my hands, tracing the raised gold seal at the top.

Ten years ago, I had chosen a man over my dream.

I had believed his promise that my sky didn't have to be across the country—that it could be right beside him.

I had spent a decade building his sky, only for him to try and steal mine.

I set the letter down on my desk, opened my laptop, and navigated to the Stanford Graduate School of Business website.

They had an Executive MBA program designed for established entrepreneurs and CEOs.

I filled out the application, attaching my corporate financial statements, my spa expansion records, and a personal essay about resilience.

I didn't ask for a scholarship this time.

I didn't need one.

I wrote the check for full tuition with my own pen, signed my name, and hit submit.
