Chapter 12 - RECLAIMING THE SANCTUARY

The first thing I did when I returned home was renovate the master suite.

I hired a construction crew to completely demolish the master bathroom.

The marble floors were jackhammered out.

The brass fixtures were thrown into a scrap heap.

And the heart-shaped jacuzzi tub—the scene of their cheap betrayal—was crushed into pieces and hauled away in the back of a dump truck.

In its place, I designed a minimalist, modern sanctuary.

Clean white stone, large glass windows facing the pine trees, a simple deep soaking tub, and open space flooded with natural sunlight.

I brought in pots of fresh lavender and fern, filling the room with life and scent.

No lilies.

No expensive candles designed to hide cheap intentions.

Just light, air, and peace.

When the construction crew finished, I stood in the middle of the new room and took a deep, clean breath.

My throat didn't tighten.

May you like

My heart didn't ache.

The house was finally mine, from the foundation to the roof.
