Chapter 11 - THE FINAL SIGNATURE

The day of the final divorce decree arrived on a bright, crisp morning in late autumn.
We met in the judge’s chambers to sign the official papers.
Julian looked hollowed out.

He signed his name on the final line with a shaking hand, sliding the pen across the mahogany desk toward me.
I took the pen and signed Harper Caldwell for the last time.
The judge stamped the document with a heavy, final thud.
“The marriage of ten years is officially dissolved,” the judge announced, looking at Julian with evident distaste. “Mr. Caldwell, you have thirty days to surrender your remaining corporate credentials.”
Julian looked up at me as we stood to leave.
“Are you happy now, Harper?” he asked, his voice bitter and thin. “You took everything. You left me with nothing.”
I adjusted my tailored blazer, looking him straight in the eye.
“I didn't take anything from you, Julian,” I said softly. “I just stopped letting you keep what was mine.”

He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.
He walked out of the courtroom alone, stepping into a cold rain with no umbrella.
